Hi all,

I didn't mean to start anything with my questions.  I hope I havn't
offended anyone.

So the simple answer is no we have not asked permission to use the
field but so far it looks like it won't be a big deal.

Of course it would be nice to have permission.  I think the issue of
using the field isn't a function of it being a public park or tax
money.  It is probably a liability issue.  I'm sure "someone" is
insured for the soccor players and I'm sure we are not included in
this when we play Ultimate.  That was the problem we ran into when
trying to work out something with the guys at the fields south of
Clinton.  There may be more to this than simply paying taxes.

With that said, if the group is ok with playing on the field knowing
we may be kicked off one day then I say lets play.  I've asked my
question so I guess I'm ready to play too (am I two faced or what he
he he ).

turnout)
- Friday 5pm at UMC (fours this past weekend)

Where is some info on the New Orleans tourney?  url?  I will be in southern
Louisiana on Sunday helping with a road race, and I'm considering showing up
early, so I might as well watch Ultimate on Saturday.  Is it a two day
event?  I wouldn't want to play for a team and then say "sorry I can't play
Sunday" unless they specifically wanted that.  And since it's 9 player
teams, it would be tricky working that out.

I would like to play but this week I will be busy with one of my other
"hobbies".  The Miss Mississippi Pageant is in town and I will be busy
Sun-Sat helping to run the pageant.....  For those of who wondering....One
of my main functions is to run the concessions and then help train Miss Miss
to go to Miss America....I know it is a tough job but someone must do it so
it might as well be me..

If anyone is interested in attending any of the pageant activities
competitions (Wed-Sat) or parties let me know and I can assist you.

In addition, I am still nursing a groin pull from two weeks ago in a
"softball tournament", so hopefully I'll be back out there next week.

Hey Everyone,
Saturday Practices recently have been pretty weak.  This saturday only 8
people showed up.  I think it's best if we just go ahead and drop this
practice because it's just no fun playing 3's or 4's.  So we can do two
things.  1 being just drop that game , and 2 being that we move that
practice to another weeknight.  Mondays have been a great fun practice where
we have had alot of people show up.  If you think having another weeknight
practice would be good, and that you could make it to both monday and this
additional practice please e-mail me.  If no one e-mails, we will just drop
the saturday practice.

folks for the Starkville edition of Mississippi ultimate. If you've
seen me play you know the emphass is on fun (hell, it can't be skill :)
so come with a good attitude.

First come first serve, but if I know you or know someone that knows
you, I guess that helps too. No flakes, or people that are likely to
bail please. There are so few tourneys in this area so don't miss
a chance to play in one of the better ones.

  Place: Memphis, Tennessee
  Cost: $150 per team - so around $10-$15 per person - gets you some free
        stuff but I don't know what and don't count on it being worth $15.
        The cost is the price you pay for having fun on their fields and is
        a really low cost for a tournament.

Well, I hate to disclose the techniques of *top-market*
journalists, but I have a question for the community:

I'm editing the piece Ralph has written on Walter and Dan
(hope that shoulder's better, Dan) and I want to know
where, besides Jackson/Clinton, can one find organized
ultimate in Mississippi?

I've heard people say "I played at USM" or "I played at Ole
Miss." If you did play on a university team, or another
team, can you write and let me know where it was and when?
And if you think there's still a team playing there (or
will be when school's back in).

Since I didn't go to school here in Mississippi, I can't tell you what
schools they play.
However, we have been playing in Vicksburg for about 7-10 years.  I had
played in college at the Univ of Conn (1977-1981) but couldn't find anyone
playing down here in 1982. (Back then there was no national organization.
There would be an interesting story of how it all got started and how we
played as a bunch of college teams in a region)


   Then one day in the early 90's a fellow WES employee, Mark Graves, put an
announcement in our Bulletin trying to recruit Ultimate players.  He had
played in college as well and wanted to play here.  So we started a
WES/Vicksburg team consisting mainly of guys who had never played before.
We played on WES and got a few others from Vicksburg to join us.  The only
team we played against was a high school team from Cleveland, MS. Then on of
my travels I ran into Rex O'Quinn who was the Regional Coordinator.

  We then started playing in the sectional and regional tournaments but
mainly as a Master's team since we were all over 30. However, we were not
very good and never won a game in a tournament.

Then we were shown the light by Dan Duffy, Ultimate Frisbee player
extraordinaire.  We never had a player/coach before and a Vicksburg Team
finally won its first game in Huntsville at a Savage tournament in 2000.

Walter helped recruit folks from Jackson and so we sorta combined folks from
Vicksburg/Clinton/Jackson and the rest is recent history....

So I have been playing Ultimate for over 25 years and hopefully will play a
few more if my legs hold out....

journalists, but I have a question for the community:

I'm editing the piece Ralph has written on Walter and Dan
(hope that shoulder's better, Dan) and I want to know
where, besides Jackson/Clinton, can one find organized
ultimate in Mississippi?

I've heard people say "I played at USM" or "I played at Ole
Miss." If you did play on a university team, or another
team, can you write and let me know where it was and when?
And if you think there's still a team playing there (or
will be when school's back in).

Is anyone local ("local" encompassing anyone on this mailing list)
putting together an open team for the Shawn Adams Memorial in 'Nooga?
Or is everyone scattering again?  There appear to be 4-5 slots left
for a Mississippi team to slip into.  While I guess I could roll my
own here, I would rather play with a more experienced team since the
competition at this one is significantly better than in Memphis.

Hey Folks,

I'm in Tupelo now... I had a great time playing ultimate with everyone this
year in Jackson and I hope I'll be able to make it back on a few weekends
for Friday games on occasion (I'll be back August 16th I think).  I've
emailed Jon and hopefully I can continue playing ultimate non-stop through
the year.

As for Jason's original question... I started playing at Millsaps College
back in around 1996-97.  We didn't have an official team, but we did have a
school sponsored club that played at 1:30 pm every Friday.  It had some
organization, but I think the Jackson tourney that Chris Weems put on was
the first time Millsaps played in any tourney.  But, true to my idea of
ultimate as a sport, the camaradie, fun, social atmosphere, and athletic
benefit outweighed any importance of being a competitive player.  The
Millsaps club was just a bunch of normal folks.

Oh, and you guys post emails about how practices are going and how the
turnouts are since I'll like to follow and keep up with the news.

How's Dan's shoulder?  I hope he'll be ok.
