This popular Ohio regatta held out at Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island in Lake
Erie has had a Monday - Wed race schedule with checkin and pre-event parties on
Sunday. Several TABA windsurfers have been attending this event the last five
years. For 2010 the regatta will have a weekend format making it more
attendable by the working man(see mail message below). Watch for details on the
I-LYA site http://i-lya.org/ this spring.

Personally, I'd like to see Ohio windsurfers make this a long windsurf festival
weekend out on Middle Bass Island. What do you say?

Subject: 2010 Senior Sail Regatta (Bay Week)

You spoke, we listened. After sifting through almost 200 surveys, we've changed
the 2010 Bay Week to a weekend regatta, August 6-8, with feeders from Buffalo,
Cleveland, Sandusky, Port Clinton, Toledo and Detroit. Along with the new
weekend format we'll be adding on-line registration, real-time scoring, and
social packages for crews and families. We will feature a challenging
one-design keelboat course for J/105, B/36.7, Level 72 and T-Ten and any other
OD fleets that register. We will also offer courses for centerboard fleets and
PHRF/JAM, as well as a cruising class.

Lots of on-shore activities will entertain your crew and their families. And
when we're not providing the entertainment, you can always enjoy the island.
There is something for everyone--historical sites to visit, fun activities for
kids and families, live entertainment, plenty of shopping, and a fun and
relaxing atmosphere.

More details will follow as we're putting together a new web site. But for now,
mark your calendars for the first week in August for the 2010 I-LYA Put-In-Bay
Senior Sail Regatta! We look forward to seeing you there!

Hey Scott,

I trust all is well with you and you're still carving up the dance floor! Keep in mind we are having our BIG Canadian Championship event here in Dryden Aug 6-8, 2010. We would love to have your company and as many as the MOWIND group as possible come up and attend.

My wife, Christine, and I are planning to attend the Canadan Championship event in Dryden and then spend some time on Isle Royale NP.  She has always wanted to see Isle Royale, combining the two means I get to attend another windsurfing event too.

Check out the current USWA NRT standings.  Notice MOWIND racers have 9 of the top 10 Open class spots.  And notice the power of persistence (attending more events than anyone else) has given a mediocre racer (me) 1st place, so far.  The fact that USWA recognized a separate Kona class this year also made a big difference in the rankings.  There may be more scores coming in from some smaller events but that is not likely to change the final Open class standings for MOWIND.

In the Hybrid class MOWIND sailors have 7 of the top 10.
In the Formula class MOWIND sailor Eric Rahnenfuerher has 3rd place, so far.

Scott,

Might make sense to look a little harder at this event as a potential MOWIND points event for 2010. My $.02

It is a great venue - especially if you find time to go out to Lonz Winery :)

Also still being considered is a possible event at New London resivour in NW Ohio. The local town had expressed interest, but as summer closed those communications have dropped off.

Woody,

I would love to come NORTH and sail your event this summer.

I hope the boys and I can figure out how to make that happen.

Warm Regards,

The Dryden location is tempting .. "variety is the spice of life they say". I
think a good portion of why people like windsurfing is that they are able get
out and see the world via their sport. I've heard from others the drive up to
Dryden is beautiful. How is the wind in August there?

The Bay Week regatta hosted by the Put-In-Bay Yatch club has been going on for I
belive 117 years now! Windsurfers race in the centerboard fleet. The party,
race committee and course setting is always first class! A nine am sharp start
time catches the early August morning breezes. The course is set between South
Bass and Middle Bass. Hobies, Interlakes and other small boats race on this
course .. it's size is not all that different from some windsurf events I've
attended .. but it will be a bit bigger than what some might be use to. The
format is simple .. they start at 9 and finish
usually by 11:30, usually 3 to 4 races . so you are out on the water around 3
hours. The rest of the afternoon .. it's fun windsurfing or resting up for the
afternoon party which starts around 4.

I plan this year to rent a house for a few days out there but probably not one
on the water. I will use the little state park beach on Middle Bass or private
residence to launch from for the race. Sonny's water taxi will get you across
to South Bass island for the afternoon regatta parties.

Hello Fellow MoWind’rs

I plan to be trying out my new bionic shoulder at Woody’s race.  I am looking forward to the drive up to Dryden.

Last Tuesday the surgeon replaced my right shoulder and I am in the 4 month recovery mode now.

Scott, your race sounds very interesting.  Please write a report on how the race goes along with some pictures.

Maybe someday we can be in two places at one time.

Cheers of the

Hey Kevin, great news about the bionics!! Looking forward to racing with you again!

And I need you all to know that the Canadian Championship Regatta is actually July 30, 31 & Aug 1. I have no idea how I made the mistake of the wrong weekend dates, but our holiday long weekend is that weekend, so that will be the weekend of the regatta. I will make a formal announcement in the next days on it. My sicere apologies for the mix up.

Woody, thanks for the early enough correction.

Kevin, was the shoulder injury related to windsurfing or kitesurfing?

Hey Kevin, great news about the bionics!! Looking forward to racing with you again!

And I need you all to know that the Canadian Championship Regatta is actually July 30, 31 & Aug 1. I have no idea how I made the mistake of the wrong weekend dates, but our holiday long weekend is that weekend, so that will be the weekend of the regatta. I will make a formal announcement in the next days on it. My sicere apologies for the mix up.

Arnie, Thanks for the very early and therefore wonderfully timely calendar!

That is another example of MOWIND as a great organization.

Wouldn't that Sept date conflict with The Mille Lacs Crossing?

Just another FYI here, but our Canadian Championship event date WILL BE August 6-8, 2010!! No more changes from me.

Hi Arnie,

The Canadian Championship event is usually held on our Aug long weekend (July 30-Aug 1 in 2010), but with everything else going on in the city that weekend with our centennial celebrations we tried to move to the long weekend but it's not possible to change our venues now for the parties!

So, the Canadian Championship event in Dryden WILL BE Aug 6-8, 2010.

Merry Christmas!

Hello MOWIND members,

Now that the water is just about done being frozen over it is time to get ready for the
next year of windsurfing.

The purpose of this discussion is to determine what is important to MOWIND for the next year.

In a few weeks - Let's say on or around March 14th on a Sunday evening at 8:00 PM CST, for any interested members we will have a conference call and decide on the items to discuss for 2010.

Feel free to suggest a better date and time is this is totally bad for someone who has an important discusion or announcement.

Important topics or updates that come to mind are:

Race and Event Insurance - Craigh Berg
Classes and Fleets - Any Chnages for 2010?
Scoring - Arden Anderson
Web Page - Scott Hass
Officers and Committees - Each Report Out
Scheduling - Arnie Cleveland
Canadian Nationals - Woody
Fundraising - Kevin  Gratton
Feel free to comment or introduce you own topic if you think it is important by sending the group an email.

I have also invited several local groups to join the call and hope you might consider putting on an event this summer. Please join us! Here is our Website www.mowind.org

I have used the service from www.freeconference.com  If someone has access to a "free" 800 number call in service that we can utilize, please speak up. If not in the next week once I get some feedback on dates, and other services, I will send out the final meeting announcement.

I look forward to the email discussion that usually precedes this call. Please keep the list intact and add in folks I may have missed or do not have an email for (The Grosse Point Gang)

Warm Regards from Snow Bound Frozen Ohio

Hi Phil & fellow MoWinders,

Thank you for taking the time to call a meeting!

Sunday the 14th @ 8pm works for me.  Earlier say 7 pm works also.

I would like to see MoWind (us) work on getting insurance so we could teach during our events,  We also need to get the kids involved more.

Nick Hayes (Milw. WI.) authored a new book called Saving Sailing and I have been fortunate to meet him at one of his presentations.  Involving the whole family is one of the most important ingredients to success.

Talk to all at the meeting.

Thanks,
Kevin Gratton

Can someone direct me to this years event schedule?
I have heard that The Hazards around middle Bass Island is on? I never missed one year. The best year was when we lucked out with S.West at 20+ knots and waves on the western shore loop!
And is Alum creek on again?
