Hey Gang,

thought I'd through some words to the group and get ideas out on the
table prior to our conference call at the end of the month.

Our Moose Regatta will take place June 29 - July 1 this year in
Dryden Ontario. I know this conflicts with Steve's Door County
Breeze regatta (again this year!) and I apologize. In earlier
discussions with Steve, I had told him we'd adjust our event around
his as he has been doing 'The Breeze' much longer, but we have
fishing events either weekend of our Moose Regatta and having to
deal with piles of boat traffic is not ideal, hence the weekend it
is again this year.

Really looking forward to travelling down to Iowa May 4-6 for their
inagural Corn Husker(?) regatta! I'll be racing Kevin Gratton's old
formula board, so I'm sure some of his sailing mojo is still in the
straps and I'll surely benefit from that!! I'll also be practicing
my flying starts charging down the line to the port marker covering
our speedy friend Arden!

Cheers,

Woody - CAN757

With my new formula board (Kevin's old one) I'll be practicing my flying starts, so sharpen the 'cover' skills! LOL!!

Looking forward to a fun filled MOWIND regatta season ahead!

Again, Des Moines, IA will have its first event this year May 5th and
6th (fun racing Friday 4th) 1st Annual Lake Sailorville Regatta.

The Woody's are confirmed, so that means that Kevin G and Don has to be
here to cover CAN 757 on the line. I will send a flyer out by the end
od this week to the group. Kevin, are you still able to help me with
some of the stuff for that weekend?

Crap! I wish I could be there for some fun on the ice with ya'll, but I've gotta go to a hockey tourney with my youngest son for the weekend. You know us Canadian's: hockey first, then other sports!

Have fun everybody!

Arnie is the MAN of western Wisconsin Windsurfing!

I wish I could say I saw the news but I never watch, So.

It’s making ice tonite and we should be able to sail at Wendts on Winnebago by Sunday for sure.  Jeff Knutson was on lake Winneconne today and had 4” of ice.  A group of us sailed there last Sunday.  So wind permitting we’ll be out Sat. and Sun.

Everybody come and join us.

Don’t forget next weekend is the Super Ice Bowl.  Get your runners sharp.

Happy 2007 Sailing Season to ALL.

Hey MoWinders,

I was working all day.  It’s really overrated!  I will get a MoWind Event schedule started ASAP.

First I must report that Jeff Knutson found 4” of good ice by Winneconne and I plan to join him tomorrow.  Anyone else interested?  Contact me by phone 920-251-1002.

After that I’ll get to the MoWind stuff.

By the way Matt Schmitz and myself completed a tri-fecta Thurs.  We sailboarded and kiteboarded on Winnebago and snowboarded at Sunburst all in 6 hours.

Jeff Ross and Brad Hitt joined us Windsurfing.

I’ve never sailed on the soft water of Winnebago in Jan.!

Hope all is well for ALL!

Later

Our Moose Regatta will be on June 29, 30, July 1 weekend. I know this conflicts with Steve's regatta again and I apologize. There are fishing events here in Dryden either weekend of our regatta weekend and a change would have meant dealing with a whole pile of boat traffic...not ideal.

Looking forward to an active racing season in 2007, starting in the corn capital of the world, IOWA!!

I spoke with Kevin earlier in December, we would like to add an event
in the "Center of MOWIND's midwest region" early in the season so we
don't step on anyones toes for dates, two weeks before Kevin's
Walleye Regatta we would like to host an event in Des Moines, IA the
weekend of May 5th and 6th. It would be the season opener for the
race series this year. Let's make sure it gets included when the
schedule is discussed.

Rod Clevenger assured me the Open class will be included in the Toledo
Open. Apparently there is an error on the USWA site regarding the
Toledo event.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm beginning to plan my year for
vacations and for that reason am anxious to see what the 2007 MOWIND
schedule will look like. The US Windsurfing schedule is taking
shape. Any of the Race Directors out there given any thought yet to

Happy New Year MoWinders!

Go Pack!

The plan is to go sailing and/or Kiting on the water tomorrow.  Winnebago is open with a big Iceberg off Fisherman’s road.  We were in the paper 4 times in Dec. twice on the front page.  I think it’s another front page possibility.  1st for the New Year.

Hope everyone had a great holiday season and may the winds blow in 07!

I just noticed that the 2007 MOWIND standings were not in our file
out here, so I added them just now. I had completed and updated
them right after Mille Lacs, but somehow managed to goof up storing
them where everyone else could see them - sorry! You may deduct it
from my salary.

Except for the TABA posting, been kind of quiet here. Anyone else
getting on the water? My lake was froze over in early December and
we had a couple of great days on the Snowfer - perfect ice.
Fortunately that ice has since melted, and I have had many great
sessions on the water since. Missed the (boaring) second half of
the Wisconsin game on New Year's day in 15-25 wind for a couple
hours. Likewise, got to cut out on our Xmas guests early in the
afternoon to enjoy a nice afternoon on the water alone that day.
Looks like another week or more of the same with weather in the 30's
& 40's for another week.

I know Kevin & co. have been on the ice on Windybago, how is that
going?

PS: TABA - I too am hoping that it was an oversight when you did
not include an Open Class for the Toledo event!

PPS: Keep an eye on the photo's section. I have some great
pictures from Hatteras where we were able to celebrate
Kevin's 'crowning' as Windsurfer of the Year. Fortunately, nobody
was hurt during the photo shoot. But it was close...

I am disappointed the Open Class is not included in the June 2-3 Toledo
Open listing on the USWA NRT schedule.
In 2006. The national 1st place winner of the Open Class competed in
the Toledo Open in each of the 5 years of the USWA NRT (2002-2006). In
3 of the five years the 1st place Open Class winner needed the Toledo
Open points to be the 1st place winner.

I made the 8.5 hour drive to Toledo in 2005 and 2006 just to compete in
the Open class. My Toledo Open points got me 11th place in 2005 and
3rd place in 2006. I'm coming again in 2007, if your listing on the
USWA NRT is changed to include the Open class.

In 2006 only 8 NRT events included the Open class. In 2007 there 10
NRT events include the open class, (two more Florida events and the
nationals in San Francisco make the increase). There would be 11 if
Toledo has an Open class. I'm guessing Exocet sponsorship of the Kona
is part of why there are two new Florida events which have the Open
class.

Email me that Mille Lac crossing video if you can.

A question   ..   has anyone seen any example or near ready to go press release kit for windsurfing events?      I know we haven't done anything locally for our Toledo event in many years to notify local media of it.   It would be nice if there was like a fill in the blanks word document available.    Maybe there is something on the USWA site?

I found out that this domain name has been spamming all of the
Yahoo!groups. This new member should be deleted.

Quote follows:

If you run a Yahoo Groups list beware of of new members from the
domain u.umacr.net . This is a spammer that appears to be joining as
many lists as possible. A while back the attack was on radio related
lists and now the attack has moved to railroad lists. (He even tried
to spam the list for my friend's 7 1/2" gauge live steam railroad.)

I've never seen this spammer use a Yahoo profile. All of the requests
to join lists have come via email. I operate several lists and this
spam attack seems to be quite thorough. The spammer appears to be
working his way through Yahoo by topics.

It's easy to catch junk like this if you set the list up so that new
members must be approved and new member posts are moderated. If you
don't do this you are putting out the welcome mat for junk. (Also, if
you set up your list so that the members can view the members list you
are inviting spam harvesters to send junk to your members.)

Finally, if you're on a list that forwarded the spam from u.umacr.net
you know that the list owner does nothing to protect you from junk
email. No need to even mention the hazards of lists that allow
attachments.

Kevin,

Congratulations. What Renee' neglected to mention was that in the
even earlier years you were one of the 1st (if not the first) Great
Lakes Regional Reps for USWinsurfing (Known at the time as USBA, B =
Boardsailing for you youngsters) and that you also taught the Mistral
Instructor Certification courses.

While you are the Windsurfer of the Year for 2006, it was your
sportsmanship, competitiveness, and helpfulness in the 1980's and
1990's that I recall fondly about you. No matter who was having
technical difficulties (whether equipment or technique), you were
always there to offer assistance so that everyone could compete. Glad
to hear you haven't changed.

Judging by how well the Midwest continues to represent at the national
events it appears the competition is as good as ever, keep up the good
work and again, congrats.
