Hi Stefan,
You will have a blast in Hatteras. Like Jeff K. I would recommend a windsurfer friendly house (Good launch site) in Avon on the soundside. There are a lot of rentals on the North side of Avon which is a popular spot with good water depth. You can leave the sails rigged overnight. Hatteras Realty has the most rentals though there are other rental companies if you look on the web. The Canadian Hole is a day windsurfing area that is really popular just south of Avon. You can not camp there.
Hope you have great wind and weather. Take all your toys or at least as many as you can haul for you never know what the weather will bring. Big or long boards for light winds, bikes for no wind, small sails and boards for high winds. Ride Hatteras has rental equipment and Charlie who owns it is a friend of mine. Tell him I sent you and he usually will give a discount.
See you at Ulf's Saylorville regatta or at my spring regatta.

Subject: [mowind] Hatteras Vacation
Hi,
A group of friends would like to take a vacation in Hatteras soon. The
abilities range from beginners to intermediate sailors. None of us
have ever been there. Could you please recommend some beaches to
launch from that are beginner friendly. We don't have the
accommodation settled yet. Is there anything you could recommend, the
closer to water the better. We would like to rent a house/condo but
don't mind staying in the campground either.
Should we take our formula equipment with us or the boards ranging
from 100-135 liters would take care of most of the conditions. What
size sail people use the most?
thanks
Stefan
