Hi Jeff and Bonnie,
Hope you are having a good winter.
Priscilla and I were planning on driving down to Florida for most of
Feb (retirement rocks) and then going to Midwinters before returning
home. Hovever, I had pretty major foot surgery on December 4th and
recovery is going slower than expected. So instead, we are flying
down to Fort Lauderdale from Feb 8 - Feb 22nd. We're staying in a
condo about 15 miles from Fort Lauderdale just a few miles from I-75.
If you guys are driving past (to get to the Keys) and need a place to
stay for a night, we'd love to see you! It's a 1 bedroom condo but
has a pull out couch.
I don't think I'll be doing any windsurfing yet, and certainly not
ready for competition, but it will be fun to get some sunshine and do
some rehab in the pool and ocean. We might try to get to Calema for a
couple days so Priscilla can sail and maybe take a lesson from Tino.
There's a week-end clinic Feb 16th and 17th.
We emailed Kevin last fall and he didn't think he'd have room this
spring at Hatteras, so we booked Cabarete for early April. Have you
been there? It's probably not the best place for Priscilla to sail
and I don't know what condidtion I'll be in, but it should be fun. We
found airfare for $430 w/tax and exchanged a timeshare that was
expiring anyway. About 12 people from Mn are going to be there then.
My foot surgery was for arthritus due to "frequent injurys to my foot
over several years". I think that relates to too much longboarding
and railing the board too much. Anyway, I finally got a appointment
with the person several sports trainers said is the best foot doctor
around. He put several staples in my foot, fused some bones together,
and scraped off several bone spurs. I spent 6 weeks with my foot
elevated over my heart most of the day. I'm still having trouble with
swelling and pain but Doc feels I'm doing great.
I was a lttle nervous when he (Dr. Coetzee) talked about fusing bones
together because of the flexibility needed for windsurfing, however I
found out he grew up windsurfing (throwing loops) in South Africa. He
assured me that I won't be able to use my foot as an excuse for any
races I loose. I assured him I have lots of other excuses and my other
foot is still bad.
Are you aware of an injury to Kevin. I went down to take some
pictures the other day and someone said that Kevin had a pretty bad
accident. They couldn't remember if it was kiting or car, or
whatever.
Is he ok? I checked his website but didn't see anything about it.
