I agree with all of your points, let's just try to get something standardized before the event so we know what to expect.
The thing that I am still a bit leary of is the "scheduled" course racing on Friday in particular. Of the three times I have attended the Crossing, course racing has always been scheduled for Friday as part of the event, yet we only raced on Friday one time. This isn't a criticism of how that regatta has been handled because it has been a Crossing competition with optional course racing on the other days. If we are going to plan on counting course races towards series points, I would like to see some committment towards having races on those days. Otherwise, just continue to make them optional activities for the weekend that are unrelated to the mowind series and just count the Crossing results.
Maybe the RC can weigh in on this. If they really plan to race Friday, I'll be there. If it is optional racing Friday I probably won't plan to arrive until Friday night.
Later,
Arden

IMHO: If the 'Notice of Race' states that racing is scheduled all three days, and if a race committee is on the water actually scoring the races, then the races should count. That notice should also indicate who is scored for each race. In other words, if everyone is in same fleet all weekend, then those that only race in crossing would be penalized for not racing in course races and thus the crossing just becomes another race. Overall winner is not necessarily the crossing winner. Is that what the regatta wants to represent? By way of example - in Kevin's fall race there is a distance race, it counts for double race points, but the winner of that race is not recognized as winner of the regatta. A different model might be to have the fleet just competing in the crossing scored only with those there for the crossing, but offer course racing for those who want to course race. You could then offer
awards for crossing (and points), but also overall awards for regatta based on course racing plus distance racing.
I completely agree with Arden that scoring those only there for the crossing (and that is the current name for the regatta) along with course racers is 'gaming' the scoring. However, there is a great opportunity to give this overall event more prestige, points and opportunity by providing both course and crossing points for the event.
> This is just my opinion and some of my concerns to make sure we don't end up "gaming" some of the season scoring rules at a regatta. Please respond with any feedback and I am happy to go along with whatever the consensus is. Finally, I think it is great that Jack is letting us know that this will
likely be a high point value event ahead of time so that we can draw a good fleet to the event. I am all for anything that gets more people to the events. > > Later, > Arden
