Re: [mowind] Mille Lacs Crossing 2007

Do you know if there will be racing for sure on Friday? If there is only going to be racing IF the wind is deemed good (say 10 or more), I don't know that I would make an effort to be there in time to race on Friday. That said, I don't know that Friday course racing (or Sunday racing for that matter) should count for MOWIND points. If the course racing will be run regardless of conditions as in other MOWIND events  (except absolute zero wind), then I think it should count for MOWIND points.

Furthermore, most people show up for the crossing, and only do the crossing (like last year with 40ish doing the crossing and only 9 doing course racing), so I'm not sure that the course race points should be based on the total entrants for the crossing. Maybe the course race points can be based on the number of starters for the largest course race of the day. So if 22 people start the first race, with people slowly dropping out for whatever reason throughout the day and the last race has only 13 people start, all course races would still count as having 22 entrants, as opposed to 40-50 that may have registered for the crossing.

This is just my opinion and some of my concerns to make sure we don't end up "gaming" some of the season scoring rules at a regatta. Please respond with any feedback and I am happy to go along with whatever the consensus is. Finally, I think it is great that Jack is letting us know that this will likely be a high point value event ahead of time so that we can draw a good fleet to the event. I am all for anything that gets more people to the events.

Later,
Arden

This is the word so far on the Mille Lacs Crossing 2007. I will post
the notice of race as soon as I get it. You can check fleet8.com as well.

Racing will be Sept 28-30. There will course/slalom racing on Friday
and Sunday. The Crossing will be held on Saturday unless weather
looks better for Sunday. Being the end of September you can expect
any kind of weather, so come prepared for hot or cold.

Mowind points will be scored for all of the races unless there is a
good reason not to. This is your warning that it could be the highest
scoring race of the season.

Last year the course racing was not counted, only the crossing. Those
that did race on Sunday last year added 100-200 points to their
crossing score with only four additional races.

Last year 41 people signed up for the crossing and 9 stayed on Sunday
for the course racing.

This should be a good weekend for everyone.

IMHO: If the 'Notice of Race' states that racing is scheduled all three days, and if a race committee is on the water actually scoring the races, then the...

I have to say that if "The Mille Lacs Crossing" is a part of the MOWIND points series, the points should be awarded to all participants including course...

I agree with all of your points, let's just try to get something standardized before the event so we know what to expect. The thing that I am still a bit leary...

Woody, I agree with you in principle, but in practice the Mille Lacs Crossing has a lot more people that sail the distance only than at other events. In fact,...

I agree with Arden (big surprise). Mille Lacs traditionally had been a crossing (long distance) event with "optional" course racing. Before the organized...

Using your example Adam, we would have to eliminate DNS's from every race including course racing, Unless I read that wrong? How would we know if someone that...

This was my point at the beginning of this conversation. First, the Notice of Race has to identify what expectations are. Not fair to anyone to arrive on...
