STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY
PLACE & DATE: Mount-Royal Park (Park Ave.) near the Tam Tams, 15
October 2006

This event takes place around the world at the same time (15&16
October), it is supported by the United Nations, and it strives to
set the first Guinness World Record for the largest number of people
to STAND UP Against Poverty, and for the Millennium Development
Goals.

Who is organizing this event is of no importance, but YOU being there
is! Why are we organizing such an event? One reason, we are the first
generation to defeat poverty in our lifetime. We must!
Fact: more than 3 billion people live on less then $3 a day. Can we
allow this atrocity to continue in front of us? How can you help?
Take five minute of your Sunday, October 15th, to attend the only
open to public rally to Stand Up Against Poverty in Montreal on the
Mount-Royal
Park near the Tam Tams. We are not asking for charity, we are asking
for JUSTICE for humanity.

Additional Information:
• The UN Millennium Campaign was established by UN Secretary
General Kofi Annan in 2002. The Millennium Campaign supports
citizens' efforts to hold their governments to account for the
achievement of the Millennium Development Goals
• The Millennium Development Goals were adopted by 189 world
leaders from rich and poor countries
• The Millennium Development Goals:
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Ensure that all boys and girls complete primary school
3. Promote gender equality and empower women
4. Reduce by two-thirds the mortality rate among children under five
5. Reduce by three-quarters the ratio of women dying in childbirth
6. Halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS and incidence of
malaria and other major diseases
7. Ensure environmental sustainability
8. Develop a global partnership for development
At this event we are trying to gather as many people as we can to
take a minute and stand up against poverty. STAND UP is an initiative
designed to coincide with Global Call to Action Against Poverty
(GCAP) month of global mobilizations around the International Day for
the
Eradication of Poverty. We need everyone to take part to ensure
governments listen and take action.
Stand Up because:
- Every day 24,000 people die from hunger
- Every day more than 100 million children are denied the chance to
go to school
- Every day 1.1 billion people have to drink polluted water
- Every day 8,200 people die due to HIV/AIDS
