BECAUSE OUR # OF MEMBERS HAVE GROWN, I SUGGEST WE MAINTAIN RADOM
SATURDAYS EACH MONTH FOR 9AM DOUBLES OR BAG TAG ROUNDS FOR THOSE THAT
MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY TILL 5:30 OR SO. NOT EVERYONE HAS THE LUGUARY
OF GETTING OFF WORK AT 4:30. THEY SHOULD NOT BE LEFT OUT BECAUSE OF AN
EARLY TIME PREFERENCE. MAYBE WE CAN HAVE TWO START TIMES. IE. A 5pm
TEE OFF FOR THOSE THAT ARE ABLE TO START EARLY AND A 5:30 OR SO TEE
OFF TIME FOR THOSE THAT FIT THIS TIME SCHEDULE. BY DOING THIS, MORE
MEMBERS WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE PART. LEAVING MEMBERS WITH A POSITIVE
CLUB EXPERIENCE.

Thanks to all members who helped run the Jelly Store during the Otter
Open. It was a successful weekend and we could not have done it
without the help of Bruce McKinley, Jim Dixon, Deena Hakim, Vanessa
King, Mike Brown, Danny McQuillan and Jeff Witvoet. These devoted
members helped sell discs, accessories, snacks, memberships and/or set
up and tear down the store. We have added 8 new members to the club
this past weekend alone. Our membership is up to 54!
Please do not forget to thank Merle and the CSUMB Disc Golf Club for
their great job on setting up and running the tournament. It was a
truly successful event for all!
In order to raise money to help pay for the courses at CSUMB, as well
as, support the school club, the CSUMB Disc Golf Club has asked us to
rally support for their Tee-Sign Sponsorships.
Our Club has already purchased a Tee-Sign on the Cypress Course #1.
There are still plenty of spaces (Tee-Sign locations)available.
If you know any business or person who would be interested in
advertising on the Tee-signs or supporting Disc Golf at CSUMB please
download a copy of the CSUMB Sponsorship Form on the Links page of
this site.

Well I am glad to hear you had a good time playing those courses.
I am in santa cruz, main course I play is Delay. Don't get down to
monterey area as much as I want. Mainly because of money/time, thats
how it goes I guess.

Hey fellow disc golfers, several friends and I have made it out to the
Monterey area to disc golf! I have played the Cypress course twice and
already love it, then recently since you guys have a map of the oaks
course on my 2nd trip to the area we played there as well. Making both
our trips out there a great one! We love both Cypress & the Oaks
course. Keep up the great work and progress!
Thanks again,
Nick Tom

Thanks for updating the maps. My friends and I went on Sunday and we
have never played the Oaks course before. Yet this map really helped
us figure things out. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Just in case I don't make it to the Member Meeting tonight, I received
word from Anya Spear, my contact in Campus Planning & Development at
CSUMB, that there are two issues the school club will be dealing with
this semester.
1. Storm Water Run-Off Near Cypress Hole 15
Anya wrote, "Campus Planning and Development is in the final stages of
completing a Storm Water Master Plan (SWMP) for the campus. The plan
calls for some modification (re-contouring) of the Cypress course in
order for the University to percolate its storm water runoff on site,
rather than flowing through the old storm drain system, off site."
I haven't seen the map yet (it's waiting for me in the CPD offices),
but in general this "pond" will be located in and around that parking
lot just north of the tee for Cypress #16. Anya doesn't have the final
contours, but she doesn't think this will affect us.
The Stormwater Management Plan is located here.

2. Demolition of Old Housing on North Edge of Cypress
Anya wrote, "are you aware we are conducting an environmental
assessment of 155 buildings on campus that will be demolished this
year? These buildings include the abandoned stucco housing along the
Cypress course. The environmental assessment should be done around
March, so demo would take place some time after that."
This is all in support of the new Faculty/Student housing, which will
extend north from edge of the Cypress course and north, towards the
area where they parked cars for the AT&T golf tournment for years. We
can check the progress of that construction at this website.

You can see a good map of that planned development on page 27 in the
Development Plan portion of the CSUMB Master Plan.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE MAKES A BID FOR COMMERCIAL ACCEPTANCE
by Alex Masulis
Failure Magazine
January 2004
Contrary to what you might assume, Ultimate Frisbee wasn't born on the beaches
of sunny
California. It wasn't the brainchild of some particularly athletic hippies. It
wasn't created by
a couple of liberal undergraduates sitting around a Berkeley dorm room. No, the
birth of
Ultimate Frisbee—or Ultimate, as those who play the sport call it—may not be
what you'd
expect. But it's a good story.

I had a wonderful first meeting with Anya Spear, the new Campus
Planning Analyst in our from Campus Development & Operations department.
She replaced Melissa Gutheil, who left the university last Fall but
not before helping us find space in the CSUMB Master Plan to let us
build the Oaks Course.
http://clubs.csumb.edu/discgolf/map/#oaks
Among the things Anya and I discussed:
* Demolition of the dorms along the north end of the Cypress Course
won't be happening this Summer. Project delays have pushed off any
demolition until Spring 2006, so we have lots of time to think about
things.
* There are irrigation ponds being planned for the north end of the
Cypress Course and in an area extending from the 18th to 13th basket
on Cypress (where the parking lot is now). Because the Army has capped
the sewers that used to run-off into the Monterey Bay, these ponds
will be the natural catch for all run-off in wet times. It's about
creating contours to help the water flow, but the digging won't go any
lower than four feet. Anya will keep us in the know when that project
starts in 2006, but it's still only in planning.
* There's also an irrigation pond planned up on large bluff of the
Oaks Course, which would impact holes 4, 5, 7 and 8. Again, it's just
contouring to hold run-off and it wouldn't be any deeper than four
feet. At the very least after a strong winter storm, we would have a
natural water hazard.
If anyone wants a copy of the pond map in PDF, let me know. There's a
Storm Water Master Plan Workshop in building 84A from 3:30 to 5:00 on
Tuesday, May 24th.

I stopped by the Oaks course this evening to play 12-18 and maybe take
some digital pictures. There was a bit of rain and the light was low,
so I skipped the photo shoot and took my pars and bogey on 16 to the car.
Then the sun dropped below the overcast and out came this sunset, what
some would humorously call the Jesus Light. I walked back over to 18
and grabbed this shot.

I also went ahead and updated the map for The Cypress Course at CSU
Monterey Bay as well.
