does "I'm Monica's, I'm a doctor" mean? Your Monica's what bro??

WOW, THis is a golden chance of the rest of the field. Venus is out
of the open along with Serena. I believe a new and upcoming star
will win this years open. Someone like Petrova, Zvonerava, or even
Sharapova.
(See Selesians Yahoo! Group for the religious version)
I'm so sorry that Monica has pulled out of next week's US Open - the
first time she has missed the tournament since 1994 (Monica won the
US Open in 1991 and 1992, but missed it in 1993 and 1994 after the
Stabbing).
The reason is, of course, the stress-fracture in Monica's left foot
that has kept her out since losing to Nadia Petrova in the first
round of the French Open on 27th May. We're all worried this may have
been the last match of her career.
After her exit from the French Open, Monica said she wanted to avoid
surgery. I must admit I'd be disappointed in Monica if she retired
when she could have saved her career by surgery, but I can appreciate
that it must be very difficult for Monica to go UNDER THE KNIFE after
all she's been through. She also avoided surgery when she had a
chronic shoulder-injury in 1996.
"Monica has been advised by her doctors that the stress-fracture in
her left foot is not yet healed 100%," said her agent Tony Godsick
(husband of her good friend Mary Joe Fernández).
In case anyone was wondering: I'm Monica's, I'm a doctor, but I'm not
the one who advised her to miss the US Open! ;-)
PA: Is there a doctor on board?
AB: What seems to be the problem?
PA: There's a lady in Premier having trouble with her laptop.
AB: Bring me to her.

AB: Wow, Monica! I'm such a big fan of yours! And I see you're

I'm very excited that Karina Habsudová will be returning at the US
Open, albeit only in doubles. The 30-year-old Slovakian, who played
that mouthwatering match of spreading rallies and exquisite backhands
with Monica at Wimbledon 2000, has been out since the Australian Open
2002 after partially rupturing her Achilles tendon. I just wish that
Monica could come back with Karina, and hope that Monica's comeback
will follow.

Once again....I don't think this award is about winning and losing
matches & tournaments. Perhaps Justine has a great record for 2003
or even the best "VS" record on tour this year but that isn't what
the "HERO" award is about. To me, when your countrywoman doesn't
have great things to say about you, then she can't be much of a hero.
Monica exudes honesty, sportsmanship, honor, & everything a hero is
and should be.
Joey
Well, to me Justine deserves that award this year. Looking at
Justine's past, she has had to endure a lot of difficult moments too.
But this is an annual award meaning that whatever happened before
January 2003 should not be taken into account. Because then you can
give indeed the award to Monica until the next century because I
think what she has accomplished and could have accomplished is really
heroic.
But we are talking 2003, right? So, you have to be injured first to
claim this award? Then you are heroic because you are fighting off
injuries? I don't know. Sounds strange to me.
Justine definitely is a very professional player. And the Serena
case... well, Serena and Justine detest each other. Both the Williams
sisters laugh at her because she is a lot less musclar and very much
smaller than them. If you are pesterd on and off court, why on earth
should you be nice on them?

Monica Seles pulls out of U.S. Open
August 15, 2003
NEW YORK (AP) -- Monica Seles pulled out of the U.S. Open on Friday
with a left foot injury that has sidelined her since May and could
end her career.
The nine-time major champion, including the 1991-92 U.S. Opens,
hasn't played a competitive match since losing in the first round of
the French Open.
``Monica has been advised by her doctors that the stress fracture in
her left foot is not yet healed 100 percent,'' her agent, Tony
Godsick, said in a telephone interview. ``She is very disappointed,
as she loves the U.S. Open and the New York crowds.''
He said it's not clear whether Seles will play again this season.
Seles was not available for comment.
After she was beaten by eventual semifinalist Nadia Petrova at the
French Open, Seles said she needed to take some time away from the
game to see if her injured feet will heal enough to allow her to play
without pain.
``I know I'm in the later stages of my career,'' she said at the
time. ``I don't have the luxury of taking five-to-six months off. At
the same time, I don't want to have surgery.''
Since then, she pulled out of several tournaments, including
Wimbledon and a hard-court event this week in Toronto.

I really felt compelled to speak
my mind and felt like Monica needed defending.
Yeah, we all get frustrated cause we wanna see Monica play and see her win
and get more slams and she has not done that this year due to the foot injury.
We are all anxious to know what she's gonna do, will she retire or play on.
It is difficult for us fans to sit back helplessly, but I feel we should not
write her off at this point & just support her and enjoy what she has to offer
the sport!

Maybe Monica is almost 100% healed. But she did not want to risk
re-injuring at the Open when shes so close to being 100%, and able to
compete. And atleast at the Australian Open she will be able to have
the Protected ranking so she wont be seeded so low.
COdy
Well you are almost right, Monica hasn't played since the French (not "last
month") & Justine didn't beat Kim when she was #1. Kim just obtained the #1
ranking this week. Wow, those are kinda harsh words from a Monica fan & group
owner. Maybe you should turn over the ownership of this group to someone who
really cares about Monica & her fans. Geez, sounds like you're done with
Monica. Really though, the award is not about who's #1 or who's beaten #1 or
how
many tournaments they've played. It's about sportsmanship, giving back to the
game, being a role model for younger players. All qualities that Monica
Seles has and will always have.
Well that's your opinion and that's fine but Justine doesn't deserve a "hero"
award. The girl doesn't know the meaning of sportsmanship and is NOT someone
that should be looked at as a hero. Her failure to play fair during her win
over Serena at the French Open was unbecoming of a champion and, in my
opinion, tarnished her victory. Even her own countrywoman said she is not above
gamesmanship during a match. Folks..Justine is no hero.
Joey
[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I don't think Monica deserves this WTA trophey. Give me a good reason
why? She hasn't played in last month. Justine has beaten the number
one player Kim Clijsters 3 times in a row now. She is the one on top.
My slagon to all: don't live in the past! Live now! And Justine is
hot and on top! Not Monica. I like her but too bad... she is out. She
has 9 Grand Slam titles. Wow! Great accomplishment. Time to lay it
all to rest.
I just voted. Although Monica has almost as many votes as 2nd-place
Kim Clijsters, she is WAY behind the leader, Justine Henin. As long
as monica is on the tour she deserves to win this, so everyone should
get those third-round votes in ASAP.

I hope Monica plays the U.S open.... maybe it's her
golden chance to make it 10... In 2001, Monica made a
great comeback beating most of the top players in a
span of a month... Just hope she's healthy n ready to
compete...My best wishes r with her.

I'm excited & worried for Monica at this years US Open. The possibilities
are incredible for her to do well, but I'm worried that she may not be able to
play. It's only 3 weeks away & she hasn't played a match since the French Open
in May. She will need to play at least one warm up event just to get some
matches under her belt before playing in NY. She will also be seeded so low
that who knows what kinda draw she'll have.
I would think at this point the Belgium girls will be #1 & 2, how strange is
that??
Joey

It will be great if Monica is feeling healthy after her long absence
from the tour and can play at the Open. Last year she wasn't 100%
going into the Open, yet she played some very competitive matches
before losing to Venus. Since then, Monica's had a couple of rough
setbacks at slams (I still think if she hadn't been injured at the
Australian Open during her second round matchup she could've provided
a challenge to the other top guns in the draw). If she's able to
play, let's hope the 2003 Open affords Monica a chance to return to
form and grab some slam glory.

THis is a great chance for Monica since Serena is out. Justine has
never made it past the round of 16 there and Venus is still injured.
Lets keeps our hopes up that Monica is almost fully recovered.
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Serena Williams won't be adding to her collection
of Grand Slam titles this year.
Williams had knee surgery Friday and will be out 6-to-8 weeks,
leaving her unable to defend her U.S. Open title later this month in
New York.
The world's top-ranked player underwent surgery to repair a partial
tear in the mid-portion of the quadriceps tendon of her left knee at
an undisclosed location in Los Angeles.
The surgery was done by Dr. Rodney Gabriel on an outpatient basis.
Williams was resting at home in Los Angeles, her spokeswoman said.
Her father, Richard, and other family members were with her.
``Serena has suffered from quadriceps tendinitis of her left knee for
many years, which has been controlled with medication and physical
therapy treatments,'' Gabriel said.
``She recently developed pain that, although improved with treatment,
increased whenever she resumed tennis activities.''
On Monday, Williams underwent an MRI, which showed a partial tear in
the tendon and surgery was recommended, Gabriel said.
``I expect a 100 percent recovery and Serena's speedy return to
competitive tennis,'' he said.
There was no comment from Williams in statements from her
representative or the WTA Tour.
She had withdrawn from three California tournaments in the last three
weeks because of the knee problem. She was scheduled to play last
week at Stanford, this week in Carlsbad and next week in Carson.
She hasn't played since beating older sister Venus in the Wimbledon
final nearly a month ago.
In January, Williams won the Australian Open. She has five titles in
her last six Grand Slam tournaments. She defeated Venus in last
year's U.S. Open final.
Williams, 21, is losing out on a chance to win $1 million in prize
money by missing the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 25.
The amount could increase to $2 million if she is unable to play in
the season-ending WTA Championships in November in Los Angeles.
The winner of each tournament receives $1 million.
Her absence also could affect the rankings.
Kim Clijsters, who has reached the semifinals in Carlsbad, is just
264 points behind Williams in the rankings.
The Belgian could be in position to take over as No. 1 during next
week's tournament in Carson.
Venus, ranked fourth in the world, also hasn't played since Wimbledon
because of a nagging abdominal injury. So far, she has withdrawn from
Fed Cup and the Acura Classic in Carlsbad. She was not planning to
play next week.

Monica Seles withdraws from Rogers AT&T Cup tournament
July 30, 2003
TORONTO (AP) -- Monica Seles withdrew from next month's Rogers AT&T
Cup tennis tournament Wednesday because of a left foot injury.
``We are disappointed that Monica's injury will prevent her from
competing,'' tournament director Stacey Allaster said. ``She has
always enjoyed competing in Canada. We wish her the very best in her
recovery from injury.''
Top-ranked Serena Williams withdrew two weeks ago, citing a
scheduling conflict. The tournament is scheduled for Aug. 11-17.
Seles has been out of action since a first-round appearance at the
French Open. She always has been a sentimental favorite in Canada,
where she launched her comeback in 1995 following more than two years
away from tennis after she was stabbed by a deranged fan.
No. 2 Kim Clijsters of Belgium will be the highest-ranked player in
the tournament. Forty-one of the top 50 players in the world have
confirmed they will play, including Clijsters, Venus Williams,
Justine Henin-Hardenne, defending champion Amelie Mauresmo of France
and 46-year-old Martina Navratilova.
