The 73rd annual River Oaks International Tennis Tournament, set for
the week of April 2-8 at the River Oaks Country Club in Houston,
will feature an exhibition singles match between two of the game’s
legendary names on the women’s side of the court.
Martina Navratilova and Monica Seles will square off on April 5.
Between the two, they have combined for 27 Grand Slam championships
and 221 career titles, most (168) belonging to Navratilova.
Navratilova also owns more Grand Slam championships (18), but Seles
leads the overall head-to-head matchup series, 10-7.
Seles has never lost a singles match when playing in Houston, having
won the defunct Virginia Slims of Houston three times, including her
first-ever championship on the women’s tour in 1989 when as an
unseeded 15-year-old she upset Chris Evert in the tournament’s final.
The cost of the Navra-tilova-Seles exhibition is $50.
