ST. PETERSBURG -- "The Great White Shark" and the National Football
League's all-time leading rusher are two of the athletes that will
be inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in August.
The 2006 class includes Greg Norman, Emmitt Smith, Bernie Kosar,
Monica Seles and Vinnie Testaverde. The class will be inducted on
Aug. 27 from 6-9 p.m. at Tropicana Field in St. Peterburg.
George Steinbrenner, the owner of the New York Yankees, is the 2006
Honorary Chair of the event.
Norman, who was known as "The Great White Shark" because of his
Australian background, was the world's No. 1-ranked golfer for 331
weeks in the 1980s and 90s. Smith, who played at the University of
Florida, is one of the most prolific running backs in NFL history.
He spent the bulk of his professional career with Dallas, before
ending his tenure at Arizona.
Kosar played college football for the University of Miami before
becoming a Pro Bowl quarterback with Cleveland. Seles won nine Grand
Slam titles and was the youngest-ever champion at the French Open.
Testaverde also played for the Hurricanes before Tampa Bay drafted
him as the No. 1 overall selection in the 1987 draft.
