Leading Australian tennis coach Gavin Hopper has been committed to
stand trial on sex charges.

The 47-year-old of Paradise Waters on Queensland's Gold Coast has been
committed to stand trial on two counts of indecent assault and two
counts of gross indecency with a person under the age of 16.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court was told Hopper had an affair with a
15-year-old student at Melbourne's Wesley College where he was a
physical education teacher in the mid-1980s.

Hopper went on to coach tennis stars such as Mark Philippoussis and
now runs a tennis school with Pat Cash.

The court heard from the victim's fellow students, including one who
told the court Hopper admitted the relationship after she confronted
him between classes.

Others said they saw the girl and Hopper arrive at school together on
several mornings, while one student told the court the girl would meet
Hopper at the school gym late at night.

Hopper has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been ordered to
appear in the County Court later this year.
