Argh, accidentally sent my return only to Lacy...In most of the other yahoo
groups I'm in, you only have to hit reply, not specify reply to everyone...
I'll try this again:
Yes, she did. That was the first time I ever watched a tennis match (our
foreign exchange student asked to watch it), and I've been hooked on tennis and
Seles ever since. I give her (and the exchange student) credit for introducing
me to the wonderful world of tennis, both watching and playing.
Maybe this comeback will go as well as that one, as she won her first tournament
back, and was the runner up in her first slam (which she should have won, she
got a REALLY bad call that cost her a set).

*fingers crossed*

I think its good that Monica is coming back. I'm glad her doctor told her to
take it slow and be patient since last year she kept trying to play while she
wasn't fully healed. Didn't she start her comeback in '95 with an exhibition
against Navratilova also? If she did I just find that pretty interesting.

Subject: [Monica Seles On-line] Monica's Comeback
Hello everyone:
Evidently, Monica is truly going to attempt a comeback. Below, is an
interesting article regarding Monica's comeback. By the way, Monica looks
great. I
love the way she looks with long straight hair.

Seles Comeback Tour Begins with Exhibition Match
RICHMOND, Va. - Monica Seles will take the first steps toward a comeback on
Monday night, playing Martina Navratilova in an exhibition match in Richmond,
Virginia.
The former World No.1, who hasn't played a match since last year's loss to
Nadia Petrova in the first round at Roland Garros, will be on court for the
first time in almost 10 months when she takes on Navratilova at the Siegel
Center.
Seles, bothered by a nagging injury to her left foot, opted to let the broken
bone in her foot heal instead of having surgery. She had been wearing a soft
cast on her foot for many months, but shed the cast three weeks ago to begin
some extensive work to get back in the game.
"I had been doing a lot of rehabbing with the cast on, but this is much
better," Seles told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "I tape it very well and go
to
therapy every day. No problems. I'm very happy about the way things are going.
It
was a very frustrating injury, and I'm glad to have it behind me."
She'll play a best-of-three sets match with Navratilova, someone she hasn't
opposed on a court in quite a while. You have to go all the way back to
Februar
y of 1993 to find the last time Seles and Navratilova squared off on the WTA
Tour. Navratliova ended Seles' 34-match winning streak by defeating her 7-3 in
a third set tiebreak in the final at the Paris indoor event.
Two months later, Seles was stabbed in the back by a fanatic fan, 38-year-old
Guenter Parche, on April 30, 1993 during her quarterfinal match in Hamburg,
an action that resulted in Seles missing more than two years on the WTA Tour.
She returned to tennis in August of 1995, winning the Canadian Open in her
first tournament back. In the following months, she was runner-up at the US
Open
and began 1996 by winning her fourth Australian Open.
Seles is hoping to return to action on the WTA Tour shortly before Roland
Garros, but doesn't want to rush back and risk another injury.
"I want to see how it goes for the next few weeks and how I feel," Seles
said. "The doctor wants me to take it slowly because he knows I have a problem
where I want to do everything immediately. He wants me to be as patient as I
can.
Seles has won 53 career titles, including nine Grand Slam titles and has
spent 178 weeks at No.1.
