Come on guys... let's be serious
I love Monica in a way that most people wouldn't be able to fathome. I've been
following her since 1991 and always supported her no matter who was on the other
side of the net... But if Monica had been elected the player of the year, that
would have been completely ridiculous and would have discredited this contest.
She has not won a single tournament this year, was ousted very quickly in
Australia and in Paris and hasn't played since... I guess the WTA took this
well-thought decision (maybe after consulting Monica even) not to jeopardize the
future of this poll. What would have Justine (or other players) thought if
Monica had won. For me, Monica will always remain the greatest player of all
time and would have been better than Steffi if... But this time we have to stick
to logic and fair-play and not let sentiments blind us. I still hope - even if
lately my optimism has been going downhill - that Monica will win another big
title and why not the gold medal next year, and I wanna see her hit some great
cross-court winners again, those who leave any opponent grounded with no
reaction but hey, let's be fair-players...
