Monica had an easy match today, taking out Tamarine Tanasugam 6-2,
6-2. Monica only had 3 unforced errors in the entire match and was
never broken. Chris Evert mentioned more than once she thought Monica
would be seriously challenged in this round because Monica isn't a
great grass court player, but Evert overlooked the fact the great
weather during the first week has given Monica's game a boost, a
notion Monica has mentioned in more than one interview.
Although rain fell on Monday before Monica's match, the courts were
quickly covered, so Monica again had a dry court to play on. Monica
next meets Justine Henin, and although most tennis analysts are
picking Henin to beat Monica, reviewing the statistics of both players
4th-round matches, as well as their play thus far during the
tournament shows Monica has a great chance of making her first
Wimbledon semifinal in a long time (10 years, I think). Either way, as
with the French Open, Monica's quarterfinal appearance will add
considerably to her ranking after missing last year's Wimbledon.
