Main Yarra Trail Closure at Burnley Wharf
From Parks Victoria:
There will be a short term closure on the Main Yarra Trail. The
closure will affect the floating pontoon section of the trail
outside the Parks Victoria depot (where the gate opens to allow the
boats in and out of the harbour). The purpose for the closure is to
replace the timber base and non slip coating of the eastern end ramp.
The diversion route is the same as currently exists as an option for
cyclists and pedestrians when the harbour gate is open and the gates
at each end closed. If travelling towards the city the diversion
takes you along Barkly Avenue to a left turn into Mary Street and at
the end of Mary street through an underpass and back onto the Main
Yarra Trail.
When: Thursday 28/2/08. Between 10am and 2pm
Where: Melways Map 2H B2, C1
Why: Ramp surface needs replacing. A thicker timber base and new
nonslipsurface will be installed.
How: The timber work has been prepared and coated off site. It will
simply be a matter of lifting the old timber and laying the new.
Cyclists and pedestrians will be advised by Parks Victoria staff at
each end of the closure as to the diversion route. It is anticipated
that we will again close the trail in identical circumstances in the
near future to resurface the 2nd ramp (western end of floating
pontoon section).
