Hi all,
After 10 years of concerted effort by the Monash Student Association
Transport Office, and with the active support of McBUG it has been
announced that the North Road bike path will soon be a reality.
We have just had confirmation from the office of Hong Lim, labor
member for Clayton that Vicroads will provide $1.7 million for the
project due to start mid next year.
The project will see a bike path built on the grass median strip in
the middle of North Road. In the last set of plans that McBUG saw the
path was to run from just east of Huntingdale Station until Clayton
Road. East of Clayton Road the path moved to the north side of North
Road and continued to the front entrance of the Monash University.
Over ninety McBUG members scrutenised these plans and provided
feedback to Vicroads on issues of practicality and safety. These
efforts and the support of McBUG members has contributed to this
project reaching its current stage. It is now McBUG's prerogative
to make sure the suggestions and safety issues raised by McBUG
members are acted upon durring the final planning stages of the path.
Congratulations are in order for all the people who have contributed
to this achievement :)
