Interesting to note that here in Victoria we have a "Minister for
Roads and Ports", we don't have a minister for transport. Why is he
performing the opening, shouldn't the minister for Health be the one
opening a bridge for cycling and walking?
"Tim Pallas is the Minister for Roads and Ports. Tim oversees
Victoria's extensive roads network, road
safety initiatives and Victoria's world-class ports. He also has
responsibility for logistics and marine
safety issues."
At least his marine safety responsibilities are relevant, considering
how many of the cyclepaths seem to get built below flood level along
storm-water easements.
btw. watch out for fallen trees on the paths from last weekend's wild
winds, there's at least one blocking the track between Warrigal rd and
Drummond st in Oakleigh. If its anything like the last major storm
that brought trees down over the path, Monash council will clear roads
within 12 hours, bike tracks within 12 months.
