Hi,
I have just notice and confirmed with Jenny from Engineering (Monash
Council) that the bike lanes on Lawrence Road Mount Waverley have been
scrubbed.
Apparently, bikes can still use the road, so its OK. Not to mention a
load of cars desperate to cut the corner of Blackburn Road and
Waverley Road, with all the associated rage should you cross their path.
There are two primary schools and a secondary school on or near
Lawrence Road. The path also links two other east/west paths
Scotchman's Creek and the Waverley Rail Trail.
It is a fairly safe and direct route to Monash University from the North.
Perhaps it's too late, but could Bike Vic make representations? Is
there some justification for the downgrading of this route from a
bicycling perspective (i.e. the cost of drawing those bike symbols on
the road or the increased community facility of more permanent linear
car parks).
I did not investigate as to who had made this decision, it may have
just been the line-marking guy, but they seemed to be aware of it in
Engineering so maybe more authority has been assert. I did ask if
they could correct their "Monash by Bike" map as it now appears to be
factually inaccurate.
Kevin.
