Hi cyclists,
I have put a link to the "Meeting our transport challenges" document
on the website for all those who want to read it. Page 18 and page 55
are relevant to cyclists (Action 8). In my view, the public transport
positives are a third rail track running from Caulfield to Dandenong,
and the extension to the Principal Bike Network on page 18 looks
promising, although it does look like more bike lanes on roads rather
than dedicated paths. Over the next 10 yesrs, $135 million out of the
$10.4 billion will be spent on bikes, but some of that will be on
advertising and 'changing behaviour'. If you live in the north or the
west, you'll do well out of the plan. Negatives are no rail link to
monash (although a smart bus from Rowville to Huntingdale station),
and lots of very vague statements like 'promoting healthier choices'
with a few photos of people on bikes and no definate plans to back it up.
Feel free to read the plan and air your views.
