FEATURED ENTERTAINMENT Featuring half-time entertainment by Alpenrose. If you were in attendance at the interleague game in the fall when these guys played, you know how much fun it was... and if you weren't, well let's just say you should wear your dancin' shoes! Pre-show by the
St. Paul Bouncing Team.
GET THERE EARLY, GET A SPECIAL GIFT We'll be giving the first 400 people in the doors a Minnesota RollerGirls polycarbonate water bottle. This is a darn spiffy gift, so get there early!
We'll be throwing an end of season fan appreciation BBQ in Rice Park (right behind the Roy) again this year and if you came last year, you know this is a great opportunity to meet and hang out with the girls. We'll have food grilling, beer chilling, and some raffle prize giveaways from our sponsors and of our own merch. So come down early and join the fun!
DETAILS 4-7pm on Saturday, April 28
Rice Park, right behind the Roy Food, drinks, raffle prizes, and more!
Help us raise $8000 for the Animal Humane Society
The Minnesota RollerGirls will be participating in the Humane Society's 2007 Walk for Animals on May 5! As a league we have a collective "big heart" for our own pets and for rescuing/helping pets that need loving homes. The Animal Humane Society has five Twin Cities locations and cares for more than 35,000 unwanted, abused, and neglected animals each year.
Our goal of $8000 would be enough to buy: diagnostic equipment and lighting for the surgical team, an anesthesia machine for the mobile spay/neuter unit, and provide x-rays for four injured animals.
Please support us with a donation by
going to our team page, selecting the "Support Minnesota RollerGirls!" button above the thermometer or "Make a Gift" below the thermometer.
Thanks in advance for making a donation on behalf of the Minnesota RollerGirls and helping the Animal Humane Society! And if you want to support your favorite team in reaching each team's goal of $2000, just include the team name in the "add a personal note" field on the donation form.
If you were at the bout on March 16, you already know that we're running voting a little different this year. You had the opportunity then, and you will again on April 28, to vote in person via paper ballot. We'll also have some limited online voting taking place toward the end of April or early May, so stay tuned for that.
Missed them last time? Well, we have a few more.
These babies sold out so fast last time, our heads were spinning. We printed up a few more and you have another chance to get a set of this season's trading cards at the bout and via our
online store. Each "pack" contains a card for each girl (vitals are on the back) plus a team card and a sampling of our dedicated refs and our one-and-only janitorial artist. Get 'em while they're hot; these babies won't last long! Only $5 per team.
Special thanks to
Tony Nelson for all the fabulous photography for the cards. And, as always, these babies were designed (and even printed) by your very own Minnesota RollerGirls.

I just posted pics from the last bout. Here's the link.
http://tnfoto.fotki.com/minnesota_rollergirls/season_3/season-3-3307/
I also replaced the proofs from the trading card portraits with
versions that are exposure & color corrected There's still a little
variation between them but they look much, much better than the raw
versions. These also have the copyright stuff embedded in them so feel
free to save & post them if you want. They're in the same folder as
the original proofs were with the same password (that I won't post
here).
Remember, with all of these you can get a slightly larger version by
hitting the "get original uploaded file" link.
Enjoy!

Here's the link to the 1/27 bout pics. I was over at Xcel shooting
the Timberlake show so I missed quite a bit of it but there's still a
lot there.
http://tnfoto.fotki.com/minnesota_rollergirls/season_3/season-3-12707/
And as far as the new portraits go, so far it looks like tomorrow
(2/13), Thursday (2/15) & Monday (2/19) are happening & I'm hoping to
get everyone (or as close to everyone as possible) in these 3
sessions. I'd especially like to get more people to come tomorrow &
Thursday. It takes quite a bit of time to set up to shoot and, since
I share my studio with others who may need it on the days I'm not
there, I have to tear down & set up again each time we shoot. Hence,
my wanting as many people as can make it as soon as possible. I have
5 or 6 each set up for Tues & Thurs but would like to fill out the
rest of the day/evening - if anyone else can make it on one of those
days, please let me know ASAP.

...howzabout a nationally syndicated radio show that would spread the
word that DERBY IS BACK??...
...here's the bit. There's a new syndication network called Nova M.
Some of you have heard of it already because they're the ones that
picked up Mike Malloy's show after he was so dishonestly dumped from
Air America Radio. They have Malloy back on now in Phoenix (where they
own KPHX-AM 1480), Little Rock (where they own KDXE-AM 1380), San
Francisco (KQKE-AM 960), Sacramento (KSAC-AM 1240) and Seattle (KPTK-AM
1090) as well as Sirius Left (Channel 146 on the Sirius Satellite Radio
system across the U.S.) Lu Cifer on the LeftWingRadicals Yahoogroup
list just let me know that they have a portion of their website at
http://www.novamradio.com/Net_Contact.php?Nav=9 on which they state:
"Have you got a show you think should be on our network? Maybe you know
of a host we should know about? Send that over to our talent scouts
over at < programming@...
>."
Of course, Lu, being in South Florida, sent them a plug for Neil
Rogers, the Miami-based talk legend that has held down the midday slot
on WQAM 560 for more years than some Derby skaters have even been
alive. Fair enough...
...what I want to do is a late-night show -- Midnight to 2:00 or 3:00
Eastern Time, 9:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. or Midnight Pacific Time. And one
of the things I want to do on the show would be keeping the audience up
to date on everything happening in the world of Modern Day Derby, both
flat track and banked track. I did what I could in the last year on my
old show on WLSU in La Crosse, but the nearest leagues to La Crosse are
Minneapolis-St. Paul (Minnesota RollerGirls), Madison (Mad Rollin'
Dolls) and Milwaukee (Brew City Bruisers), all outside the signal range
and each a hefty drive from town. A nightly national radio show that
plugs the hell out of Derby would be a whole lot better than tossaway
human interest stories on local TV or in the Daily Birdcage Liner,
wouldn't it?...
...as for my own qualifications, I've been involved in broadcasting in
one form or another since I was 9 years old. Anybody who wants to see
my resume can email me off-list and I'll send it out in Microsoft Word
format. There's RealAudio of me doing a rock 'n roll oldies show in
2001 at http://rockradioscrapbook.ca/mackenzie2.ram and you can
download one of my better "Echoes of a Century" historical programs at
http://www.radio4all.net/proginfo.php?id=11574 (click through on the
"Download" link at the bottom, then save the target on the next page to
your hard drive)...
...Mike Thomas and Mike Newcomb, the heads of the Nova M network and
the local owned-and-operated station in Phoenix, can be called at
602-257-1351 during regular business hours Arizona time. Would love it
if some AZRD and TRD gals could give the Mikes a holler on Monday or
Tuesday towards that end. If you have flat-rate long distance elsewhere
in the States and Canada, that'd be great too. And the email addy
upmessage is useable if you can read this. Let's get this thing up and
rolling!...

The link is right but Yahoo's format doesn't allow for a link has so
many characters so it splits it up over 2 lines & makes the 2nd line
not active. Just cut & paste it into you browser &, if it doesn't
allow the whole thing to go together, do them separately. Not sure
if there's a way to make this not happen...

Hi, I am excited to see the pictures posted from Saturday, but the
link isn't working. Could someone please send me the corrected link?
Would be greatly appreciated. My daughter is a Rollergirl (Snakebite
#-1) and she will be home tomorrow and I wanted to view the pics while
she is here. Thanks!
Pat Orton

THE PERFECT GIFT With our 13-month calendar, there's never an off-season. Buy your limited edition calendar for only $15 (makes a great gift!) from our online store or at our upcoming bouts and spiff up your walls at home and at work.
Each month features a variety of RollerGirls and refs, including a team shot for the Atomic Bombshells (October), Dagger Dolls (May), Garda Belts (March), and Rockits (July). Also included on the calendar: RollerGirl birthdays, bout days, league anniversaries, and derby history.
And as with just about everything we do, all the work was done by league members and/or volunteers including Wet Spot (photography) and B-rad (design).
WANT TO PLAY TO A CROWD OF THOUSANDS? If you're in a band and you've always dreamt of playing to a crowd of thousands in a big venue, now is your chance. We're holding a Battle of the Bands contest to determine which band will play our January 27 bout (the opening bout of our home team season).
On January 6, the Minnesota RollerGirls will be hosting a Battle of the Bands at Station 4. Five bands, chosen by our fans via online voting, will participate in the battle that night and the winner will come out with a $400 cash prize and 20 free tickets to our January 27 bout. But the real prize is that the winning band will play the halftime show of our January 27 bout to a crowd of thousands on the stage of the Roy Wilkins Auditorium.
ANNOUNCER SEARCH The Minnesota RollerGirls are looking to round out our roster of announcers. Many people could be well-qualified for this volunteer position: actors, sports writers, radio personalities, and fans.
You're encouraged to attend the next two home bouts on 11/11 and 12/9 to become familiar with the game (if you aren't already), to read the
Derby Basics and
Rules of the Game pages of our site to gain insight into the sport and its history, and to study the team bio pages to familiarize yourself with the girls.
If you love derby and you want to contribute to our bout-night fun, then let us know. You'll be invited to a couple practices to see what goes on and to talk to some of the girls. Tryouts will be held in early January and, if chosen, you'll start announcing on January 27th.
Let us know you're interested by sending an email to scotty@....

Shaw's is at 1528 University Av NE - click on the Shaw's link for directions.
We're a total Tuesday night basement band (with obviously no recording budget) but we try to get out in the world & play every now & then so come on down if you can! We'd love to see you there.
