Please check the website at www.mnhoovedanimalrescue.org to check the many updates on the trainers challenge, the colt and pony show, and the fall tack sale!
While we don't have all the specifics about this year's Pony and Colt Show (fillys are welcome too), we do know that it will be held on Saturday, September 20th at Serendipity Stables in Zimmerman. More information will be posted at www.mnhoovedanimalrescue.org so check back often!
This is a fun show for all small equines. Classes in the past ranged from costume to driving to in-hand trail and jumping, to halter or ????
Please contact me about the horse challenge volunteers. I can be reached at: email, pholm@... or 763-633-2740.

I've tried to contact the person I thought was in charge of volunteers twice regarding volunteering for the triainer's challenge event and have not had a response. Does anyone know who is actually doing that?

It's that time of year again where we go through the storage and play the "Eathly Use" game. Never heard of it? It's a lot of fun. Crack open those boxes in your basement and start looking through them. When you find an item, hold it up and ask "Does this have any earthly use to me?" If it doesn't, it gets put in the Garage Sale Pile. Who would have thought that getting things ready for a garage sale could be so much fun! So, if you have some items - they don't even have to be "Horse Stuff" - that you'd like to donate to our little garage sale, please call Deb at 763-856-4475. No TVs or computer-related equipment, please. You can request a tax receipt for your donated items.
The garage sale is planned to occur Thursday, July 24th through Saturday the 26th, rain or shine from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. It will be held at the Princeton Civic Center, 503 North 9th Street, Princeton, MN 55371. Donations can be dropped off at that same location on Wednesday, July 23rd from 10:00 AM to 6:00PM - again, no TVs or computer-related equipment, please. For more information and other places to drop off items, please call Deb at 763-856-4475 or via e-mail at dfarm@.... We hope to see you there!
If anyone in the Becker/Big Lake or west of Becker needs to drop items off sooner, pls call me and we can set something up. I am going up on Wed, July 23rd with 1 horse trailer & 1 smaller trailer of items. I will be staying for the day to help set up/sort, etc. Laurie 763-238-6615

Sounds like a great opportunity to get rid of stuff. Make sure to tell us where and when we can drop stuff off.

I wish you and your trainer the best. Garnet looks like a wonderful horse to work with. Please keep posting on the MNHooved site as to what is happening with her! I am enjoying reading people's thoughts on the process!

Please check the website www.mnhoovedanimalrescue.org for the details on the trainers challenge. Please consider this - this is a local event - so you will not be up against Clinton Andersons. Anyone who is good with a horse and can put the time in has a shot at winning!! This is great exposure for your career too!
The details and entry for the trainer's challenge are now on the website at www.mnhoovedanimalrescue.org. This is a wonderful idea for getting more of the horses well trained and therefore adopted, with a $4000 prize for the winning trainer.
Check out the site at www.mnhoovedanimalrescue.org for news about Drew's radio broadcast which you can access via the podcast, and the new group of 58 horses - mainly Mini's - that were siezed and need hay.
Hi everyone!
I just wanted to thank those of you that have ordered from
www.horse.com (Country Supply) and entered the "MNHARF" code. The
first check for $50.00 is on its way! For those of you that are
wondering what I am talking about, if you order your horse-related
supplies and equipment from www.horse.com or www.countrysupply.com,
and enter "MNHARF" into the box at checkout, they contribute a portion
of your order amount to us. This is a reasonably priced source of
stuff we all need.
thanks again!
Lisa
Apparently the "Rescue Me" prints are not yet available as mail order. They will be available at upcoming events until a way is figured out to mail them safely.
There is an exciting new entry on the web site as follows:
Trainer's Challenge of the Unwanted Horse
At some point, we've all attended a three-day clinic that was supposed to solve all our horse problems and turn our ADD equine into the next prize champion. But like the quick-fix diet, it failed. So we send our horse out for 30 days of training. The result? We see a glimmer of hope, but we find that we still have a long way to go.
Why? 30 days of training at one hour a day for one month is only 30 hours of work. Most
people put in 40 hours a week! And a horse is supposed to learn how to behave perfectly in less time than that? Would you let a first-time driver take off in your Mercedes right after they pass their test? Could you go up to an employer and demand top wage for a job after only taking 30 hours worth of training?
Training a horse is a lifetime commitment. You want your horse to be rock-solid when a jogger in blaze orange comes around the corner. You want your horse to stand stock-still when the farrier is working on their feet. You want to ride with confidence that your horse is not going to explode into a panic the next time you try to trailer them or ride in a busy arena.
Do you have the Trainer's Moxy? Have you spent so much time sitting a bouncy trot that you're not even phased by Minnesota potholes? Can you look
at a horse and see the champion within, even though that "champion" has thrown you more times than you care to admit?
Then pay attention, because we're looking for YOU.
Keep watching this space. Very soon, we're going to ask you to walk the talk. We have 10 horses out there that will be assigned to 10 trainers with a very difficult task: take an unwanted horse - a horse that has little to no training - and turn it into the horse that everyone wants. Discipline does not matter. Turn the horse into one that yields to pressure; stands for the farrier; loads and unloads like a dream; spooks at nothing; stands quietly when being saddled; walks, trots, and canters on cue. (This is merely a list of examples, not requirements.) And you will have 100 days to do it.
Oh yeah - and after the 100 days, you and your horse will be judged by a panel of experts and could possibly walk away with not only bragging rights, but up to $4000 in prize money.
Do we have your attention?
Good. Keep watching www.mnhoovedanimalrescue.org for updates and instructions on what you'll need to do so that you can be one of the 10 trainers selected for this challenge. The Challenge of the Unwanted Horse.

MHARF "Horseless" Horse Drive, Auction, and Show
Yes, you read that right - we're presently in the planning stages of having our first "Horseless" Horse Drive, Auction, and Show. The idea is to have all the fun of your normal horse show, but without all those "nasty" side effects! You know the ones: the sleepless night before the show, all the work put into getting the horse ready only to have them roll in the nearest mud patch, and that empty feeling you get in your back pocket or purse when you get into a bidding war over that "Oh-so-cute" pony.
Before you think we've completely lost our minds, there is still a horse theme to this show - specfically, Breyer horses. We know you have 'em! We sure do! More than we'd
care to admit, in fact. What we're hoping to do is have enough of these collectable horses to have ourselves a friendly horse show, complete with an auction, with the proceeds going towards the care of the real horses here at the Rescue. The current plan is to have this show coincide with the MHARF Tack Swap that were hoping to hold this fall.
So, if you find yourself with duplicates, extras, or you're just plain tired of having all these horse models around the house (ok, we admit that we're reaching on that last one), consider setting them aside for the MHARF "Horseless" Horse Drive, Auction, and Show. If you'd like to express your interest in this, or have questions/ideas about the show, please contact the Rescue via e-mail: info@mnhoovedanimalrescue.org
