What an awesome proposal! Hopefully we are set up to do this kind of thing through paypal - if not, we need to get on it!

Subject: [TCCTList] A Friendly Challenge to TCCT List Members
I read the Pioneer Press article about starving horses in Minnesota
yesterday, and went to bed feeling sick and helpless -- how can I
possibly help when the problem is so huge and growing? I woke up
with an idea: sign up with my US Bank bill pay service to give the
Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation a mere $35 per month by
autopay. With a kid in college and mounting credit card debt, that's
all I can reliably afford -- about enough to by 7 bales of hay at
current prices. Big deal, right? That will feed one horse for 14
days, which won't even make a dent in the suffering. But after 12
months, I'll have given $420 -- more than I could ever give at one
time, and enough to buy 84 bales of hay. That will feed one horse
for 168 days, over 5 months! And get this: if every one of the 1,279
TCCT list members were to give MHARF just $35 by autopay per month,
that would generate $537,180 per year -- enough to buy a hell of a
lotta hay, as well as provide veterinary care, farrier services, etc.
Of course, you don't have to give $35. $25 is the suggested amount
to join MHARF, even $5 per month will provide 12 bales of hay, while
some folks may be able to commit much more. My suggestion, though,
is to only commit as much as you could reliably give every month and
then do it by autopay, so you don't have to think about it. If you
don't have on-line banking capability, MHARF also accepts support
through paypal.
To make it easy for you, here's the info I needed for my on-line
banking:
Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Fdn
PO Box 47, Zimmerman MN 55398
763-856-3119
I put "TCCT Challenge" in as my account number, so MHARF can track
our combined support.
You can also go to www.mnhoovedanimalrescue.org to learn more about the
organization and what other support they're in need of. (For
instance, they're hoping someone can donate a horse trailer in good
condition.) I've decided to give them the several nice horse
blankets in various sizes that I've been saving "just in case"
someday I have the horses to fit them. They're not keeping anybody
warm stored away in my basement.
We've spent so much time on this list arguing about closing the
slaughter houses and grousing about people who neglect their horses.
What if we, as TCCT list members and horse lovers, really committed
ourselves to helping MHARF help horses during this hungry time. The
economy's only going to get worse and the horses are only going to
get hungrier. I invite you all to join me in doing a little
something every month to help. If you're with me on this,
please "reply all" and let the list know. Thanks!

PS - If I've broken some sort of list rule by "soliciting", don't get
mad at the list administrator. And don't get mad at MHARF; they
don't know anything about this. Get mad at me. I can handle it.
