Hi,
Roosevelt was banned from the state tournament in 1961, not 1960.
Secondly, at most, it SHARES the "stiffest penalty in league history" with
at least 5 other basketball teams--Rochester 1915, St. Paul Humboldt 1917,
Mpls. South in the late 1920s (I don't recall the exact year), and Bemidji
and Thief River Falls both 1933. All were banned from the state basketball
tournament after having won the right to play, 3 of the 5 for using an
ineligible player, same as Roosevelt.
I understand there were also another 25 or so cases in other sports.
Roosevelt was treated exactly the same as other schools had always been
treated. Your singling them out in your report suggests, as Roosevelt
partisans have always suggested, that the Teddies were singled out and,
therefore, were treated unfairly.
This is revisionist history.
Thanks for listening.
