I got to see some good players for teams playing against St. Louis
Park this week.
Bryce Webster had 30 points and (by my count) 18 rebounds Tuesday
night for St. Thomas Academy. Hard to say how impressive this was;
Park's biggest player, Michael Williams, is 6-3. Most of Webster's
points came from inside. I'm not much of a judge of defense, but I
recall Williams blowing right by Webster in the lane once.
Tonight Park played Shakopee and got outrebounded by an even bigger
margin. Shakopee's 6-4 junior forward, Eric Carlson, had 35 points
and 19 rebounds (by my count). He had 22/15 in the first half.
Like Webster, most of Carlson's points were in the paint.
While these were impressive performances, I don't think Park right
now is providing much of a challenge to the opposition.
Following a Gophers game on the day that Webster signed his letter
of intent, Dan Monson said, "We're partial, but we think for our
program Bryce is the best player in the state. We need the size."
