I'm cross-posting this from the baseball e-mail list since it applies here, too:
You have seen what happens when someone who is on this list, signed up to
receive individual e-mails or daily digests, goes on vacation and puts an
automated response on his e-mail account.
To stop this from happening, I have gone into this person's preferences and
changed them to "No e-mail" so that the automated responses won't continue every
time someone makes another post on this forum. If I remember to do it, I will
change his preferences back on August 18, after he is scheduled to be back. If
I remember, then they won't be changed back and he won't be getting any more
daily digests from this list.
If your preferences are now on "No e-mail" (meaning that you just go to the web
site to post, read, and reply to messages), you don't need to worry about this.
However, if you get either individual e-mails or daily digests, you need to do
this if you are ever to set up your e-mail with an automated response:
Send me a message and ask me to change your preferences to No e-mail.
When you return and remove the automated response, send me another message
asking me to switch your preference back to individual e-mail or daily digest
(and be sure to specify which you want - don't expect me to remember which it
was). And don't ask me in your original message to switch your preferences back
on a certain day; I'm probably not going to remember. It's your responsibility
to contact me when you want your preferences switched back, and it's your
responsiblity to contact me before you put an automated response on your e-mail.
If you don't, I will change your preference to no e-mail as soon as I see the
automated responses showing up on this post.
Thanks.
