I had meant to ask if anyone else in the group had been at either the 79 or 80 Minnesota-Indiana high school all star basketball games.

Subject: [mnbuckets] Gilreath then and now
I watched a bit of Wisconsin getting thumped by Penn State, and saw David Gilreath returning kicks for the Badgers. I remember his dad being a star at the tail end of the great Marshall-U basketball teams in the 70's. I saw Gilreath play point guard for the Minnesota high school stars when they beat Indiana in 1980. (The other starters as I recall were Jim Petersen, John Alt, Ricky Suggs and Brian Hansen.) The Minnesota girls, led by Janet Karvonen (she had been cold all game until she made some key shots in the fourth quarter) beat the Indiana girls in the first game of the doubleheader. The Minnesota boys (with a starting lineup of Randy Breuer, Ben Coleman, Greg Downing, Mark Wackler and Jerry Williams) had clobbered Indiana the previous year. (There was no girls game in 79.) After going 0-3 Indiana declined to play the Minnesota kids after that.
