He was always a great shooter. His mom is the Carleton women’s coach and has made the Carleton women into a “regional” (MIAC) powerhouse. They haven’t had the national success that St. Thomas had in the ‘90s but they’ve probably won an MIAC title (without looking it up) (either regular season or post) in 6 of the 8 years of the 21st century so far. As Tammy Metcalf she was all-state tournament for Northfield High herself way back in maybe the early ‘80s, played at St. Olaf, became the St.Olaf coach, left St. Olaf, and landed at Carleton. Good genes never hurt.

As if Leuer and Stommes weren't shocking enough, I discovered that I had missed a game earlier this season where freshman Zack Filzen (Northfield/Northern Arizona) scored 25 POINTS vs. Cal Poly!  He was 10-11 from the field, 5-6 from 3-point land.
