High School Girls

Hopkins beat South 68-62 yesterday in the final of the Hopkins tournament. Tayler Hill scored 31. South had edged Eastview 62-58 in the semi. Eastview beat Osseo 66-60 for 3rd place as Brittnye McSparron scored 41.

So Centennial is the obvious #1. #2 (last week's poll) Central lost to Centennial. #3 South now has 1 loss. #4 Eastview now has a loss and needed OT to beat Park. #5 Park has just the one loss and hammered DeLaSalle 52-34 last night to win the prestigious Rochester tournament. Still #6 Hopkins will have to move up, its loss to Becker is it's only one, I think. I think that #7 Kennedy has a loss though they're not maintaining their Web site.

DeLaSalle should remain #1 in AAA despite the loss, because #3 Becker has those losses to Rogers and Crookston along with South and Central. Becker plays #2 St. Michael Albertville (7-1 with a loss to unrated) Orono on Jan. 18. #10 Princeton (8-3) and Gopher recruit Katie Loberg has losses to St. Michael, Cambridge and Sartell.

Crookston will remain #1 in AA and Ada in A. Crookston beat Ada 60-49 the other night. #2 AA Albany (7-2?) lost to AA Rochester Lourdes in the Rochester tournament, so they'll drop down a bit. Jordan is still the team to look out for IMO. They're 8-1 now, I think, after a bad loss to New Prague in their opener and only rated #7. But I think it's MaxPreps has them #7 in all classes. That might be a bit high but it's more accurate than #7 in AA.

#2 Barnum (9-0) looks like the top rival for Ada (7-1) in A, though the A tournament is always a crap shoot. It's pretty common that no more than a couple of the final top ten even make it to the tournament. Barnum has more 8th graders (4) on its roster and more sophomores (6) than seniors (2), and no juniors. 3 of coach Randy Myhre's daughters are on the team, in grades 8-10-12. So if this isn't their year, well, their year will come. #3 New Life Academy (7-1?) has also looked good with a loss only to #4 AAA Minnehaha, which remains unbeaten as far as I know.

I do wish teams would do a better job of updating their MSHSL Web pages. Best guess top ten ratings and W-L:

1. Centennial 10-0
2. St. Paul Central 8-1 lost to Centennial
3. Mpls. South 10-1 only loss AT Hopkins
4. Hopkins 10-1 lost to Becker at home
5. Eastview 10-1 lost to South
6. Park 8-1 lost to Eastview
7. DeLaSalle 9-1 lost to Park
8. Bloomington Kennedy 1 loss?
9. Crookston 7-1(?) lost to Fargo Shanley with Kamille Wahlin out sick
10. Becker 4-4 hey the DeLaSalle boys are 0-5 and still top ten
11. St. Francis 10-0
12. Osseo 7-3 after two losses at Hopkins tourney
13. Minnehaha 8-0
