I'm posting the message below for Alan Holst:
Friday, 8 players were the first Minnesota high school products to
score 10 or more points in a game for a Division 1 men's basketball
team during the 2007-2008 season.
Travis Brown
Andrew Henke
Cory Johnson
Cameron Rundles
Jefferson Mason
Bruce Price
Brett Winkelman
Ben Woodside
Price, after missing all last season with injury, shot only 1-13
from the field ... and still scored 20 points!
Meanwhile, Darren Kent played 25 minutes for Kansas State ... and
scored 1 point.
Kent's new teammate Andre Gilbert -- who left South Dakota State in
2006 after being being indicted on rape charges (he was acquitted) --
started for Kansas State. (Don't know if Bob Huggins signed him
before he left, but that would certainly fit Huggins' profile.)
There are five players who still have/had eligiblity remaining, but
are no longer playing Division 1 basketball.
Ray Brown (Richfield) was kicked off the team at Bradley for another
positive drug test. (He was suspended all last season for the same
reason.)
Matt Cadwell (Cretin Derham-Hall) -- who averaged in double figues
for South Dakota State last season -- has transferred to Division II
Concordia College in St. Paul.
James Davis (Minneapolis North) left Lamar after signing with an
agent, hoping some European team will be dumb enough to sign him.
Tubby may need big men in a big way, but he sure doesn't need Davis.
Jadee Jones (Hopkins and De La Salle) transferred from Furman to
Division II Minnesota Mankato.
Arden Skoglund (Hopkins) is still at Valparaiso, I think, but has
given up basketball for music and youth ministry.
There are 2 Minnesota high school products who are redhisrting with
Division I teams this season after transferring -- ex-Purdue
Boilermaker Dan Vandervieren (Hopkins) at Colorado State and ex-
Gopher Bryce Webster (St. Thomas Academy) at Utah State.
To the best of my knowledge, there are 59 Minnesota high school
products on Division I men's basketball rosters this season. If
anyone knows of any that I have missed, please let me know. Thanks.
Here are the 59.
