Yes Brewer was from the Chicago area but I don't know any of the
details. He was recruited by Bill Fitch, BTW, and was rumored to be
unhappy and to be considering leaving the U when Fitch left to coach in
the NBA. That is why they hired George Hanson, because he already knew
the players and vice versa.

Also BTW, Stew your recollections of the basketbrawl cannot be correct.
Dave Winfield was NOT on the Gopher basketball team until after the
brawl. He was recruited out of the intramural league because the team
was short-handed.
