As assistant basketball coach and assistant AD Glen Reed was part of the braintrust that made the momentous decision for the Gopher basketball team to recruit nationally, including black players. The Lou Hudson-Archie Clark-Don Yates squad was to a very large degree a part of Glen's, as well of course as Johnny Kundla's, legacy.

I believe he was asst baseball coach for the 1960 national champs (but not '56 or '64?). So I am copying this over to Halsey Hall.

This morning's Strib contains an obit for former gopher hoopster and
asst. coach Glen Reed.  Glen was also an asst. baseball coach and
asst. A.D. Those of us who are old enough also recall his work as a
commentator on the high school state tournament telecasts.

Glen's son, Steve, was a year behind me at Robbinsdale HS and we were
on the track team together.

Glen died Oct. 28 from complications of Parkinson's disease.  He was
72 years old.
