Double X Speedway

Double the Fun at Double-X Speedway
California, MO
July 5, 2009

Double-duty was the call to action for the Independence weekend with racing action on Friday as well as Sunday at Double-X Speedway. Extremes from the petite 600cc micro midgets to the roaring 360 winged outlaw warriors sprints provided the holiday sparks and celebration that race fans desire.

Chad Buford's report on the Friday night W.O.W. race is followed by the results of all other heat and feature winners.

Fisher Wins at Double-X
Friday - July 3

Adding to his Winged Outlaw Warrior point lead, Josh Fisher scored his third win of the season at Double X Speedway Friday night.
Four-time defending WOW champion Randy Martin jumped out into the lead as he was chased by Curtis Evans and Fisher. The action would come to a stop on lap two for a Frank Brown in turn two.
Lap three would see Martin again jumping into the lead with Fisher taking second away from Evans. Evans would take second back on lap five as a yellow would come out for Tyler Blank, who spun between turns one and two.
Martin again flew to the lead on the high side as Evans and Fisher gave chase. Lap eight would see the yellow fly again for Frank Brown, who spun off the track between turns one and two.
Martin would once again jump into the lead as Evans and Fisher continued to give chase. Lap ten would see Fisher, who was running the bottom, get by Evans. The next several laps would see Martin continuing to lead as Fisher began to reel him in. The excitement grew the pair ran nearly side by side.
On lap seventeen, Fisher went by Martin and into the lead as Martin stayed close to the new leader. After a yellow flag on lap eighteen, Martin changed his line and followed Fisher on the bottom but made contact with the inside wall. The contact broke a radius rod on the left front ending Martin's night on lap nineteen.
On the restart with a lap nearly completed, disaster would strike second-place Evans as he rolled to a stop in turn four with terminal engine problems.
Fisher would again jump into the lead as Adam Jones, Evan Martin, Mitchell Moore, Rusty Potter, and Lanny Carpenter had a great battle for the next five positions over the last five laps.
Fisher would go on to the win with Jones in second. Evan Martin would have a WOW career best finish of third while Potter ran a solid fourth with Lanny Carpenter in fifth. Mitchell Moore of would run sixth while Jon Corbin ran seventh followed by Austin Alumbaugh. Rounding out the top ten was Terry Hinck and Curtis Boyer.
