Hi All,
I wanted to extend my congratulations to MSJ runners on an excellent first meet at Monte Vista. It was a joy for the coaches to see your races.
Some of my thoughts include:
1) I was pleased that many Mission runners were "thinking big" about this meet and about their XC seasons. I heard comments like, "I think that I can win my race", and "I think that I can finish in the top twenty". "Thinking big" leads to good things in life.
2) Almost all MSJ runners were physically prepared and mentally prepared to compete when they got up to the starting line. This is called showing up in an "ideal performance state".
3) Most were fierce competitors for the whole race in spite of a very tough hill. Please note pictures that I posted at Mission. If you want to see fierce "squared", note Katherine (who ran a great race).
4) Freshman and Sophomore runners showed great talent in races, and there are many opportunities at MSJ this year to step up to key varsity and other positions. I'm expecting a lot.
5) MSJ runners cheered for each other after races. I could see people running harder and faster as a result of the encouragement.
6) After the good start for the season and appropriate recognition, I hope that everyone will now raise their personal "bar" to the next level. Have a strategy to get there. With diligent workouts over the next month, great improvement is possible.
Congratulations on the fine start.
