Fourth Quarter Fireworks Secures a 12-6 Victory
November 22, 2009 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro) Texas OutlawsThe
Texas Outlaws evened their record to 1-1 with a 12-6 win over the Denver
Dynamite at Bladium Arena. The Dynamite closed to within one goal in the fourth
quarter before the wheels came off. Texas scored eight times in the fourth
quarter in a match that saw them outshoot the Dynamite by an almost 2 to 1
margin.
The Outlaws fell behind early in the first quarter as Chris Handsor connected
with Mark Cromie who buried the first goal of the game 1:53 after kickoff. Just
37 seconds later, the Outlaws answered back as the speedy Shaun David scored a
breakaway goal with the assist by goalie Adam Jochelson. The Outlaws, however,
came to the game unprepared for the in-fill turf of Bladium Arena. Many players
were in the flats and were visibly having troubles adjusting to the surface. The
Dynamite took advantage and went ahead 3 to 1 with 4:13 left in the quarter.
Last year's leading scorer for the Outlaws Kellan Zindel got one back to take
the Outlaws into the end of the quarter down 3 to 2.
The Outlaws dominated the second quarter as they pressed the attack. The Outlaws
inked 15 shots in the quarter, just under one-third of their total shot count.
The Dynamite defense held firm despite the pressure and only allowed one shot
through as Jose Castro was able to score with 2:45 remaining before the half.
Both teams were heated as they entered halftime with players from both sides
exchanging words. At halftime, Coach Kevin Leonard was visibly upset with the
team's performance and inability to find the back of the net.
The Outlaws continued to rack up shots in the third quarter. It was defender
Jared Lee playing up in the offensive zone that finally gave the Outlaws their
first lead. Lee forced a defensive error and poked the ball in for an unassisted
goal halfway into the quarter. It looked as if the Outlaws would keep control of
the game but the Outlaws went a man down after Lee was penalized for a slide
tackle. Twelve seconds later, the Dynamite scored a power play goal. The third
quarter ended tied 4-4.
The Outlaws entered the fourth quarter a man down. Just 24 seconds into the
quarter, Shaun David found himself on a breakaway and scored a short-handed goal
for the Outlaws. Despite the Dynamite scoring an equalizer less than a minute
later, the momentum was clearly in the Outlaw's favor. Dominic Schell and Edison
Arboleda scored the sixth goal and seventh, and eventual game-winning, goal
within 27 seconds of each other. The Dynamite responded with their sixth goal
5:11 into the quarter. With less than 5 minutes to go, the Dynamite began
pressing the attack, which allowed the continuous shooting by the Outlaws to
find more holes in the defense for goals eight and nine. The last three goals
were scored against the sixth attacker as the Dynamite attempted a comeback.
The next Outlaws home game will be on December 6 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are on
sale at www.txoutlaws.com. Group tickets can be purchased by contacting Marco
Juarez at 817-846-8843.

Here's the report from the Baltimore Sun on Saturday's game:

Baltimore regains its championship form
By Glenn Graham

November 22, 2009

It took one game plus a little more than a quarter, but the fine play the
hometown fans have grown accustomed to seeing from their two-time defending
championship Blast team arrived Saturday night against the Philadelphia KiXX.

Down by two points in the opening minutes of the second quarter, the Blast
offense came to life in a demonstrative way, scoring nine unanswered points in
the game's pivotal stretch. In the second half, the home team protected its lead
with responsible team play on defense, blanking the visitors for the first
26-plus minutes. The end result was a reassuring 19-8 win in front of an
announced 6,511 at 1st Mariner Arena.

"We're used to scoring in bunches, our team. That's how it's been the last five,
six years. Once we get going, we're hard to stop and it showed tonight," Blast
captain Robbie Aristodemo said.

Coming off a disappointing 10-8 overtime loss to the Rockford Rampage in its
home opener Nov. 13, the Blast, led by a three-goal performance from Lucio
Gonzaga and 15 saves from Sagu, improved to 1-1, while the KiXX fell to 0-2.

"That first win in '09 was very important, especially at home. It's a good
response from last week's result," Aristodemo said.

Trailing 6-4, the Blast got even with 9:06 left in the half when defender Mike
Lookingland blasted a shot from the top of the circle that quickly got past KiXX
goalie Sanaldo and went off the top crossbar before going in. The home team took
its first lead with 5:21 left in similar fashion, this time with Machel Millwood
sending a rocket shot off the crossbar for an 8-6 lead.

Gonzaga closed the defining quarter with a long run from midfield, getting by
two defenders before finishing his chance from beyond the three-point arc for an
11-6 edge with 1:52 to play in the half.

The Blast will next play Dec. 13 when it travels to Monterrey La RaZa for its
first road game.

And here's the report on the Wave-La Raza game:

Wave Blank Monterrey 15-0
November 22, 2009 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)

Never, in 1,011 games over 26 years, had the Milwaukee Wave shut out an opponent
in a road game.

Sunday, Nick Vorberg led a historic defensive effort as the Wave kicked off the
2009-10 season with a 15-0 victory over La Raza de Monterrey at Arena Monterrey.

Fast and energetic, the Wave tore out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. Kyt
Selaidopoulos opened the scoring, followed by Ryan Mack. Both players were key
cogs in Detroit's XSL championship team last year.

Later in the period two more goals followed in quick succession. Brett Wiesner
finished from the right wing, then Ian Bennett blew past a defender down the
boards and fed a wide-open Hewerton in the box for an easy finish past Jose
Bontti.

The next two periods were scoreless, and Monterrey pulled the goalkeeper in
favor of a sixth attacker with just under 8 minutes remaining. Milwaukee
defended well for about 4 minutes, then slammed the door in spectacular fashion.

Mack was sent to the box on a penalty, putting the Wave two men down. But almost
immediately, Wiesner intercepted a pass just on the Wave side of midfield and
lofted a 3-pointer into the empty net to make it 11-0. Hewerton and then Bennett
finished the scoring in the final 2 minutes.

"I couldn't be more proud of the guys," said Wave Head Coach Keith Tozer. "I
said to the guys before kickoff, (owner) Jim Lindenberg really stepped up to
plate for this team. I wanted to win this game for a lot of reasons, but one of
the reasons was to win this for Jim, and I think that really inspired the guys a
lot."

Vorberg was credited with 13 saves. The three previous shutouts in Wave history
were:

* Jan. 18, 1986, 2-0 over Chicago (Tony Pierce)
* March 6, 1993, 14-0 over Denver (Tony Pierce)
* Jan. 28, 1995, 16-0 over Chicago (Victor Nogueira)

The Wave (1-0) travel to Rockford on Friday in the Rampage's home opener.
Rockford (1-0) knocked off Baltimore 10-8 in overtime last weekend. A fan bus is
available for Friday's game. Cost is $30 for game ticket and bus trip. Call
414-224-9283 for more information.

The quality of the picture on last night's Blast-Kixx webcast was very good.
The announcers are another thing especially Paul Mittermeier.

I would definitely attend PASL Pro games if there was a team nearby. The
Outlaws were especially impressive.

The league is still around but it changed its name to the MISL or Major Indoor
Soccer League. The Massachusetts Twisters folded but the Milwaukee Wave, which
had played in the XSL joined the MISL after the XSL folded. The Wave is a big
improvement over the Twisters.

No, the NISL, as such, no longer exists. What was the NISL last year changed
their name BACK to the MISL.

The Blast hosted the Kixx tonight, and got on the winning track by mauling the
visitors 19-8. Lucio Gonzaga was named player of the game after scoring a hat
trick, to include the eventual game-winner -- a monster 3-point rocket off a
breakasway that utterly blew Sanaldo away.

Here's the report from the Blast website:
========================
Blast Beats KiXX, 19-8, Saturday Night

11/21/2009 7:00 AM - The Baltimore Blast, led by forward Lucio Gonzaga, defeated
the Philadelphia KiXX, 19-8, Saturday night at 1st Mariner Arena. After opening
the 2009-10 MISL season with a 10-8 overtime loss to the Rockford Rampage, the
Blast regained their offensive firepower to even out to 1-1 on the season. Six
different players scored for the Blast; Gonzaga led all players with three
goals.

All Blast home games will be webcast live this season at www.B2TV.com.

The KiXX took an early 2-0 lead in the seventh minute off a Ptah Myers
power-play goal. Late in the quarter, following a handball by KiXX goalkeeper
Sanaldo, Blast all-time leading scorer Denison Cabral was unable to convert a
shootout goal but followed up seconds later with a goal on the ensuing power
play to tie the game at 2-2.

The first three minutes of the second quarter saw a flurry of goalscoring as
Ryan Heins, Lucio Gonzaga and Rey Martinez each recorded goals. Heins scored
just 33 seconds into the quarter to put the KiXX back on top, 4-2, and less than
a minute later, Gonzaga, playing in his first game since returning to the Blast,
tied the game at 4-4 with his first goal of the night [Dave's Note -- it was a
spectacluar header from close range]. Former Blast player Rey Martinez scored
against his old teammates to give the KiXX a 6-4 lead at the 2:13 mark. Blast
defender Mike Lookingland scored in the sixth minute to tie the game again, this
time at 6-6, before Machel Millwood gave Baltimore its first lead of the night,
8-6. Gonzaga's second goal [Dave's Note: the three-point bomb I mentioned
above] extended the Blast lead to 11-8 shortly before the halftime intermission.

After a scoreless third quarter, the final quarter of play featured four goals,
including two Blast three-point goals scored against Philadelphia's
sixth-attacker offense. Gonzaga completed his hat trick midway through the
quarter, increasing Baltimore's lead to 13-6 and Billy Nelson and Jonathan
Greenfield added empty-net three-point goals. Former Blast player Adauto Neto
scored the KiXX last goal of the game just seconds after Nelson's goal to cut
into the Blast lead, 16-8, before Greenfield sealed the 19-8 victory.

Led by head coach Danny Kelly and assistant coach David Bascome, the Blast
features veterans and long-time Blast players Cabral, newly named team captain
Robbie Aristodemo, Giuliano Celenza, Carlos Garcia, Millwood, Sagu, Nelson and
Lookingland. Dave Kern, Ryan Pierce and Greenfield are also back in Blast
uniforms as are last year's standout rookies Pat Healey and Adrian Bumbut.
Gonzaga, a member of Baltimore's 2008 championship squad, is back in Baltimore
after spending last season with the New Jersey Ironmen. The Blast has also
added Rod Dyachenko, Mike Dello-Russo, Logan Alexander, Max Ferdinand and
Adriano Dos Santos to the roster.

The San Diego Sockers extended their winning streak to three games after they
defeated the California Cougars, 5-4 in overtime, tonight at Del Mar Arena.
The Sockers (3-0) welcomed the Professional Arena Soccer League championship
Cougars to their first away game with a Paul Wright to Kraig Chiles finish in
the second quarter. Before the home crowd could celebrate the opening goal after
awaiting a scoreless first quarter, the Cougars responded with a goal of their
own. Enrique Tovar's pass to the far back post found Nelson Santana for a
California equalizer.

Feeding off the energy of his Cougar teammates, David Vedder charged up the
field to blast in a shot and give California their first lead of the night. But
the Cougars wouldn't settle for a one-goal lead as Brian Farber delivered a
cross to Majell Aterado to put California up 3-1 at the half.

With the fans awaiting a spark from the Sockers, things didn't seem to get any
better when three minutes into the third quarter Craig Scheer chipped the ball
over goalkeeper Riley Swift's head for a 4-1 lead. The remainder of the third
quarter the Sockers saw opportunities on goal, but couldn't find the back of the
net.

Anthony Medina revitalized spectators at the Del Mar Arena as he skied for a
header 15 seconds into the fourth quarter. Just over a minute later, Aaron Susi,
a former Cougar, struck a pass from Wright to narrow the score 4-3. Sockers fans
remained on their feet as Chiles danced around Cougar defenders to fire a shot
from the top of the circle to tie the game 4-4 and send the match into overtime.

About six minutes into overtime, Chiles saw another opportunity to finish with a
pass from Ze Roberto, but put too much power on his shot as he sent it well over
the goal. The kick seemed just a warm up for Chiles as he converted his next
opportunity-Wright pushed the ball up the field after a steal-to earn a hat
trick and end the match at 7:34 of sudden death.

"I messed up earlier when I shanked that one over the top," Chiles said. "It was
redemption that I got the ball set up again and I loved it."

A close game between the two teams saw a physical match as a collision between
Susi and California goalkeeper Jesus Molina in the second period sent both
players down hard. Despite the impact, both Susi and Molina walked off any
injury. Twelve minutes into the third quarter, Vedder slammed into the side wall
as he fought for the ball against Socker defender Roberto. Vedder managed to
walk off the field.

"We were fighting and battling in the first half," Coach Phil Salvagio said.
"Once the boys started playing and scoring goals, we showed some heart out
there."

Game was good, quality of webcast was ok. Limited views, but it didn't break up
or buffer. The Rockford games last year had a lot of break up and discontinuity
between video and audio, especially in the beginning of the season.

What are you saying, skipper? The refs in Monterrey are . . . parochial?
Biased? Homers?

We noticed the same thing last season.

Skipper;

While a bit disappointed in the final result, no, it was not that much of a
surprise. Rockford has a very solid team this year, while it is obvious that
the new Blast players have not been with the team for very long. There were
some serious miscues -- such as Billy Nelson passing the ball across his own
defensive penalty area, right onto the foot of Stewart, resulting in the
Rampage's second tally of the night, it was clear that this team needs more time
together.

And yes, Danny Waltman was the star for the Rampage. He made a couple of
spectacular saves on shots that easily could have salted the game away for the
Blast. It was an excellent game. Here's the report from the Baltimore Sun:
=============
Blast falls to Rampage in OT in season opener
Brisson's goal wins it after Celenza ties score with 1:23 left in regulation

The Blast had plenty to celebrate as it opened its Major Indoor Soccer League
season Friday night against the Rockford Rampage at 1st Mariner Arena.

The game marked the 30th year of professional indoor soccer in the city, and an
energized crowd of an announced 9,614 helped the team enjoy the raising of last
season's championship banner. All that remained was bringing home a win, but the
Rampage spoiled the party.

Rockford defender Chris Brisson scored 9:47 into overtime as the Rampage was
able to outlast the Blast for a 10-8 win in a rematch of last season's
championship game.

"It's always disappointing to lose, especially a special night like this,
dropping the banner and all that," Blast forward Denison Cabral said. "But I'm
going to be honest: I think they came out with more energy than we did in the
first half, and that cannot happen - that's not the Blast and how we play."

The home team showed fourth-quarter resilience, twice coming from behind to tie
the score. When veteran Giuliano Celenza finished off a ball sent through by
Mike Lookingland with 1:23 left in regulation, it appeared as if the home crowd
would eventually go home happy.

The Rampage, quicker to the ball and strong on defense for much of the game,
didn't allow it. Brisson cut to the middle and pounced on a wall pass sent in
from Matthew Stewart to stun the home team.

Cabral scored two goals to lead the Blast, which also got a key fourth-quarter
goal from Pat Healey to overcome a 6-4 deficit and 12 saves from Sagu in the
net.

The Blast (0-1) will try to rebound next Saturday when the Philadelphia KiXX
come to town for a 7:35 p.m. start at 1st Mariner Arena.

Both teams' defenses were a step ahead of the rusty offenses for much of the
game, but it didn't start out that way.

Cabral scored just 3:42 into play, a two-pointer from the left side after hard
work in front from Rod Dyachenko. But the Rampage, quicker to the ball in the
first half, responded with consecutive two-point goals from Bato Radoncic and
Stewart to take a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.

Cabral scored his second goal 16 seconds into the second quarter to tie the
score at 4, and defense dominated the rest of the first half to send the teams
into halftime even.

"To be honest, I just thought we weren't good enough tonight," Blast coach Danny
Kelly said. "In the first half, we didn't do the little things well enough, we
lost runners, our communication wasn't good enough, quick enough. It just wasn't
good enough, and I expect more from the guys in the locker room and I think they
expect more from themselves. We battled better in the second half. We ... could
have won the game, but I don't know if we deserved it."
