OK, It's official.....I've heard there have been rumblings that our "dirty little klub" practice race is being invaded from all sides!
All locals need to come defend our territory!
THIS SUNDAY- course opens at 10am. RACE begins at 11:30am
AWARDS and LUNCH following the race. Please bring something to contribute for lunch, maybe rolls, lunch meats, crock of soup or chili, snacks.....this will be a fun lead into the Dave Panella Memorial race the following Sunday!
If you're not racing, bring your mtn bike and cowbells and harrass the racers :)
All of these years, I refused to try cross. I fought it all the way to the end saying that riding a road-style bike on grass was just plain silly. Then one day a few weeks ago, I was bored, had a baby-sitter, basically no excuses...so I tried cross. I just couldn't wipe that s..t-eating grin off my face afterwards. Now I've got the bug, but no bike. I'm working with Jim at CPC for a new spring purchase. In the meatime, I am looking to borrow or possibly even purchase a used model for the remainder of the season and for some winter commutes. I am optimistically hoping to find something before the Kapinus Kross race this Sunday or at least the Panella Memorial next weekend. It will need to be a 52" frame, pedals and tire conditions not a concern. Email me at this address, or jackie@... or call 237-3213.

Hi everyone, looking for anyone who would
like to volunteer to do the finish line at our race on Sunday so I can
race too.
It will be VERY EASY....not many riders,
maybe 25, we'll have a finish chute and make each rider tell their name
after the cross the line, honor system for anyone who may be lapped, but
it shouldn't happen since the course is plenty long enough.
I came across a poster advertising this film screening last week (interestingly, I noticed the poster post-spin class), and thought some of you may be interested.
The screening is at BU; details and a link to the film's website are below. I hope to go to cross practice at Ely and make it to campus by 7pm for the viewing. It's free! There will be refreshments! (These things always appeal to college students like yours truly.)
Sponsored by: United Health Services, BU Eating Awareness Committee and Sodexo
Come see this wonderful film about one elite runner’s struggle with
anorexia and athletic bulimia. This runner explores how family, media
and sports influence our ability to love ourselves and our bodies.
Location: The Anderson Center’s Osterhout Theater on the Binghamton University campus
Admission is FREE and refreshments will be served.

Dear friend, I am willing to give you a big surprise. I found a website: www.seggroup.net . last week. They mainly sell phones , laptops, tvs ,digital cameras and motorbikes. I ordered a tv . now I have got the product after 5 days. Its quality is very good. By the way, they only sell new and original products and their products have international warranty. Now , they are promoting their products, so the prices are very competitives. If you need these products, you can have a look. Don not miss the good chance ! Best wishes!
The cross race in Saratoga is on the 25th. The races on the weekend of the 17th and 18th are Troy (both days) and Syracuse on the 18th. I plan on being at Troy and Syracuse. I am not sure about the 25th, as my daughter will be in town.
Have fun out there and good luck!!!

Hello all,
I'm happy with our meeting in Greene on that Saturday, November 8th, as I'd love to run a cross country race (gasp! running!) on Sunday the 15th, but don't let me hold up the works...
Who will be joining me for cross on October 18th in Saratoga, by the way?
Hi! I will not be able to make it to the meeting on November 8th - I will be on a family vacation in Florida. Have fun and fill me in on the details! Smiles, Heather

Hey ladies,
One of those dates might be easier to do for Bob and I (and Bob's kids,
who are with us almost every weekend through the winter). That way it
wouldn't be another whole trip for them-they like coming to cross races
but it tires them out by the end of the day, it's hard work spectating
when you're a kid :)

Don't be silly, we are all equally ranked, and we need everyone's ideas and input for team sponsorships and thank you letters and pictures for the sponsors. How about it, who else can come to Greene Elementary school on the 8th?
Re: Mission In Motion fall meeting..... cross............
I'll be doing the Greene race so that would be good for me. Otherwise since I'm not a prominent racer, it doesn't matter, what works for you higher ranked gals.

Weather forecast: 55 degrees, mostly sunny, only 10% chance of precip! Perfect riding weather!
10th Annual Hammondsport Hump. It's on Columbus Day weekend, so if you have the option to take Monday off, we can stay late and eat and drink into the night! A few folks are even driving up Saturday night and enjoying some wine tours the night before so they can enjoy a later start and only have a really short drive in the morning. There are some lodging options in Bath which is only 10 min away. You can Google the hotels there if you need to make reservations.
Please note, this is the last year we are doing the Hammondsport. We used to do a ride prior to the Hump called the "Rongo 50". Now that it has been over 10 years since that excursion, we are reviving it again for hopefully another 10 year run! That's a 50 mile loop that goes up the east side of Seneca and back down the west side of Cayuga and hits all of the best wineries on two wonderful lakes! It all wraps up at the end of the ride for a fun and casual meal and live music at the Rongovian Embassy (thus the "Rongo 50"). We will keep you posted for that trip next year
The Hammondsport Hump is a 36/60 mile bike tour around Keuka Lake:
This year, we will be starting this
year at the village square in Hammondsport. We will proceed up the east side of the lake for the 1st leg of the ride. This leg is a relatively flat 18 mile pedal up to Penn Yan. We will be stopping this year at 2 wineries on the 1st leg of the tour. Pack a lunch for a stop at Penn Yan Park (there is also a town right there with pizza slices, subs, and refreshments) . This will also be the turn-around point for those wishing to return the easier 36 mile round trip route back to Hammondsport. After lunch, those wishing to do the complete 60 mile route will continue around the tip of Keuka Lake and proceed around and down the west side of the lake. We will do 2-3 additional stops at Hunt Country and Dr. Frank. I've pulled my professional strings and we will
get a discount on all purchases along with a private tasting.
This 2nd loop is an additional rolling 42 miles
with a challenging climb to Bully Hill. The short loop mileage is 36 flat miles, round trip, and the long loop is 60 miles with hills, round trip. Dinner will be optional at the Village Tavern at 6:30 pm in Hammondsport after the ride. So far, we have a group of 18 eating!
This is a fun trip, the sights are breathtaking, and the hospitality from the wineries is wonderful.
Audrey O'Brien is our sag wagon volunteer. I'm sure she would like some company if any of you that are going have a significant other that would like to go, but prefers not to ride it by bike!
Anybody who flats, mechanicals, gets drunk, or just plain can't pedal anymore will be welcome to hop in for a ride on the back half. You will be responsible for carting your lunches and purchases on the 1st leg of the trip unless Audrey wants to pick up purchases from the first half of the trip.
As always, at the beginning of the trip, I take up a
collection so that we may buy something special for the sag drivers.
Itinerary: Meet at the Rt 17/17C Apalachin exit boat launch at 8:15 am leave promptly to tailgate at 8:30 am, or meet at the Village Square in Hammondsport at 10:15, ready to ride at 10:45 am SHARP! Wineries open from noon until 5:00. Lunch stop at approx. 1:00 in Penn Yan, dinner in Hammondsport at 6:30 pm.
Directions to Hammondsport: Take RT-17 WEST, becomes I-86 WEST Take the BATH(RT-415) exit, exit #39 - go 0.3 mi Turn on BABCOCK HOLLOW RD - go 0.6 mi Continue on RT-415 - go 2.0 mi Continue on LIBERTY ST - go 0.2 mi Continue on GENEVA ST - go 0.7 mi GENEVA ST becomes RT-54 - go 5.9 mi Turn on RT-54A - go 0.5 mi Turn on LAKE ST - go 0.1 mi Arrive at the center of HAMMONDSPORT, NY
Please email or call me at 237-3213 if you have any questions! RSVP FOR DINNER ONLY is preferred so we know how many to make reservations for (18 so far)! Hope to see you all there this year!
It sounds like mud was served up at both cyclocross races this weekend! Due to some factors regarding my work, I opted to do the Parma Cyclocross race, near Rochester. While the fields were not as big as Ommegang, the enthusiasm of each of the racers and spectators was definitely huge. The classes that everyone's been taking to improve heckling have contributed to the roars that were happening near the shores of Lake Ontario as well.
All women started out 15 seconds behind the master men. I got the hole shot and effectively blocked Natoli and Shana around the first few muddy turns. Eventually, they slipped away from me, although I did get them back on the paved road section. However, muddy turns outnumbered power sections and they eventually got away. I pushed my way through the back of the master men, and had a good race though, to put a solid lock on third. Shana, in her home race, pulled away from Natoli and held on for the win. I represented MIM on the podium for photos, with mud still caked on my legs. It was a fun race!
The Open Men's race saw the course completely deteriorate. The mud hole before the runup became one long runup, and the off camber was crazy. This was an hour long race, though, and once the mud got completely stirred up some of it also began to dry -- on chains and derailleurs. Toward the end of the race a fairly steady stream of guys began to emerge, shouldering their broken-derailleur bikes. The winner there would be the bike shops!
Congratulations to everyone who put their leg over a cyclocross bike this weekend. I hope you all had fun!
Take care,

What an awesome day it turned out be yesterday
for the Ommegang Brewery Cyclocross race!
I can't tell you how many people were
there, (A LOT), and I can't tell you where anyone finished (doesn't matter
when you're having a blast) :) but I can tell you that if you weren't
there, you missed out!
Thanks to Gregg Drumm and the Ommegang
crew for a fabulous event. We received commemorative Cyclocross
Ommegang pint glasses, free beer, tour of the brewery and several tastings....all
while enjoying a beautiful day, listening to great music, riding our bikes,
....heckling ...I mean..cheering on the riders.... and hanging out with
awesome people.
Many of the TVC men opted for two races,
WAY TO GO, you guys!
Pat, John, Karl, Paul, Elliott, Dave,
AJ, George, DanO, Ed Burns, Josh were all racing in fine form! Chris,
Tami, Tracy, John, Audrey were there cheering us on.
Kim, Angela and Delana represented Mission
in Motion in the Cat 4 women's race at 9:15 when it was still quite slippery
out there. Delana finished her very first cross race in style sliding
around the corner under the beer tent on her last lap, you did awesome!
By the time the Open women's race started,
the sun and heat dried the course up nicely providing a fast packed in
trail for us to follow. Vanessa, Karla and I raced in the Open race
with LOTS of screaming spectators cheering us all around the course. Karl
& Dan were giving hand ups during our race, I wasn't quite ready for
the first offering, wanted to make sure I had enough of a gap, so I went
hard and took the next one strategically offered right before the mud pit
area (thanks Dan), so I had to put the cup in my teeth so I could use my
hands to keep the bars straight through the mud, and figured out it was
pretty easy to keep riding while tipping my head back for a drink (got
a lot of cheers for that) :)
We also heard many loud heckles (directed
at many various riders) throughout the day such as: "interesting technique over
those barriers Cornell, but that's not going to get you there!" "Go, Go, Go, ride it like you
stole it!" "attack that hill" "that
brand new TT bike isn't helping you now is it" "Go back to Rochester"
"c'mon, big ring, big ring,
youcandoit" "What are you doing walking
that hill, when you said it was totally rideable!"
SO many good ones, over top of each
other, I can't remember them all :) what a great day!
Next Sunday, there's a choice of some
more fun either on the Hammondsport winery ride or the Swandrome CX race
(wish I could do both), but I'm running low on wine in the house and need
to stock up :)
Okay I've tried to get the directions link to work but it's not. So try
mapquesting or GoogleMaps to get directions from 59 Buck Hill Rd South,
Mecklenburg NY, to 106 Bank Street, Newfield, NY 14867. Or you can find
us after the race and follow us home...

This was posted to Tioga Velo Club and the Binghamton Mountain Bike Group. A few folks from the Mission in Motion and Ski Club that go every year asked me to send this posting out to their groups (Tim, please forward to your group) in hopes that even more of you will join us...
We are going with Sunday, October 11th for the 10th Annual Hammondsport Hump.
This is not an all-out drink fest, so children are welcome if you can drag them along on your bikes! The restaurant we eat at after the ride is family friendly. The prices and fare are upscale. However, there are kids' menus and bar food options and
the dress is casual. There may also be few musicians playing that night.
We will keep you posted for that trip next year
The Hammondsport Hump is a 36/60 mile bike tour around Keuka Lake.
We will do 2-3 additional stops at Hunt Country (Shelley's parents may be there provinding wine samplings for us)
and either Bully Hill
and/or Dr. Frank (I will see if I can pull my professional strings and get a 30% discount on all purchases). This is an additional rolling 42 miles with a challenging climb to Bully Hill. The short loop mileage is 36 flat miles, round trip, and the long loop is 60 miles with hills, round trip. Dinner will be optional at the Village Tavern at 6:30 pm in Hammondsport after the ride.
This is a fun trip, the sights are breathtaking, and the hospitality from the wineries is wonderful. We
had great 75 degree weather and a record turn-out
this weekend last year. All levels of ability are welcome.
This is a casual-paced fun ride.
We possibly have a sag wagon volunteer.
Anybody who flats, mechanicals, gets drunk, or just plain can't pedal anymore will be welcome to hop in for a ride on the back half. You will be responsible for carting your lunches and purchases on the 1st leg of the trip. The sag wagon will pick up purchases from the first half of the trip
and bikes, bodies and purchases on the 2nd half of the trip. I am also looking for a volunteer with a 2nd sag wagon to maybe take some pressure off of our sole driver
so far this year. As always, at the beginning of the trip, I take up a
collection so that we may buy something special for the sag drivers.
