Saturday started off extremely Windy
and Sunny for the Crit on the newly paved surface at Upper Onondaga park.
The Women's Cat 4 race began at 9am with 3 Mission in Motion riders
in a group of 24!
The race was so much fun to watch as
Margaret, Angela, Phil, Bob, Tracy and John and I cheered them on and discussed
strategies and wondered who would go for primes or who might try to break
away.
Vanessa stayed cool and calm always
maintaining a spot in the top 5 riders keeping an eye on any riders who
tried to get away. On one of the Primes, the group sprinted hard
and continued into the headwind splitting up the field. Vanessa and
Charlsie stayed in the lead group with Tami in the Chase group of 4 riders.
Charlsie made an attack, forcing Ruth
Sherman of Cornell cycling to lead the chase. With 3 laps to go,
Vanessa and Gabrielle of CRCA went off the front, Charlsie went to the
front of the field to slow the pace....this time, Ruth bridged up to them
alone and the three of them worked to maintain a 20 second gap on the field.
Ruth and Gabrielle were spent from Charlsie's previous attack and
Vanessa saw the opportunity on the climb of the final lap to put the nail
in the coffin!
Vanessa launched over the hill and
poured it on down the back stretch around the corner into the finish for
a SOLO VICTORY! Charlsie finished 8th and Tami 18th with a mechanical
leaving her with only the small ring to spin in.
Great job everyone! Good teamwork!
Also, you looked fabulous in those new uniforms!
More to follow :)
