We had some absolutely gorgeous weather for this race. I was
actually thankful for the 9am start time for the womens race after
watching the men race with temps close to 80. Quite a difference
than the 42 degree weather we raced in last weekend!
Anyways I went into this race thinking that the course was going to
be like the old Perinton race. Well it wasn't it was much harder
with a lot of hills thrown in. I really liked this course it was
very challenging. We started out with about 25 women, apparently the
best turnout this race (Perinton) has ever had. Approximately 1 to 2
minutes into the race (or our neutral start) poor Shelley flats.
That's just bad luck!
The race was really tough with the Terry girls obviously in control
of the race. Alot of us stayed together for the first lap, and by
the second I was racing in the lead pack of about 10 girls. At some
point, a Terry girl went off the front and I believe we were left
with 6 terry girls and 4 non-terry girls. So she was never to be
seen again. We all stayed pretty much together until the end,
dropping a few people here and there.
In the end it split apart right before the finish. It finished on a
good sized hill, and by the end my legs were burning! I ended up
coming in 8th. Margaret came in 15th. Shelley tried her hand at the
Masters race, but ended up dropping out. From what I hear that was
an awfully fast Masters race! It was a great race and a beautiful
day.
Hope to see everyone at the Binghamton Circuit Race this Sunday!
