burnitz,hammonds,jenkins & dont forget about
newly 1st baseman Richie Sexson to have good years. i
think we will have one of the best outfielders in the
league. i also think we will have a great bench, with
sweeny,houston but not Grissom~who SUCKS. <br>Hey DEAN TAYLOR ~I
think we need a 3rd basemen trade for one! <br>we
should bring up Ben Sheets, he is pretty damn good. well
i g2g now.<br><br>GO BUCKS & BREWERS!

I FEEL THAT BURNITZ WILL HAVE AN ALLSTAR YEAR...
I THINK HE WILL BE THE MISSING PIECE THAT WILL MAKE
THE BREWERS A TEAM TO DEAL WITH THIS YEAR... I LOOK
FOR BURNITZ WILL BE MORE PATIENT AT THE PLATE AND
LOOK TO RAISE HIS AVERAGE. IF HE JUST LETS HIS NATURAL
POWER DO THE WORK, HE WILL STILL GET HIS 30 TO 40
HOMERS THIS YEAR....

I FEEL THAT THE BREWERS WILL BE CONTENDERS THIS
YEAR.. IF THEY GET OFF TO A GOOD START AND ARE COMPETING
FOR AT LEAST THE WILD CARD BY ALLSTAR BREAK.. WATCH
OUT.. I THINK THAT MANAGEMENT WILL GO AFTER ANY MISSING
PIECE(S)... I THINK IF THEY CAN BE COMPETITIVE IN THE FIRST
YEAR OF THE NEW STADIUM, THEN THE FRONT OFFICE WILL DO
EVERYTHING NECESSARY TO MAKE THE TEAM IN IT FOR THE LONG
HAUL...

The Brewers resigned Jeff D'Amico & Tyler Houston
two 2-year deals. They also signed OF Jeff Hammonds
from the Rockies to a 21.5 million $$$ deal, for 3
years. I think that this is a great pickup. This means
that they will be dumping Marquisse Grissom! c ya
later Grissom, YOU SUCK!

Is this a straight up trade, Burnitz for Nevin?
If it is, I'd do it. They'd lose Burnitz's power,
but Nevin's got some pop too. And you're right, we do
need a third baseman. But then who plays right field?
I don't think we have a solid player to put there.

FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The red-hot San Francisco Giants hope
to continue their dominance at home tonight as they
continue a three-game series against the Milwaukee
Brewers. <br><br>With Monday's 8-1 win, San Francisco has
won 24 of its last 34 games and is a major
league-best 37-18 at home, despite dropping its first six
games at new Pacific Bell Park. <br><br>The Giants'
recent hot streak has elevated them to the top of the NL
West, one game ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who
have gone 6-9 over their last 15 games. <br>San
Francisco has outscored its opponents 15-2 over the last 2
games and has not plated fewer than five runs in four
of its last 5 contests. It is 4-1 on its seven-game
homestand. <br><br>Milwaukee failed to put together its
first three-game winning streak since July 9-14 and is
3-4 against the Giants this season. It is 2-2 on its
six-game road trip. Brewers slugger Geoff Jenkins is
6-for-16 with 3 Homers &4 RBI in his last four games.
<br>Milwaukee righthander Jamey Wright (6-4, 3.64 ERA) will
make his second straight start against San Francisco.
He did not factor in the decision Tuesday after
allowing four runs and five hits in 7 innings during the
Brewers' 6-4 triumph. <br>The no-decision held Wright's
career record against the Giants to 1-3, but lowered his
ERA to 5.21 in 10 games vs. them. <br><br>Wright has
shown no ill-effects of a rotator cuff injury that
caused him to miss over a month of the season. Although
he is averaging 5.55 walks per nine innings, he has
countered by allowing only 80<br>hits over 94 innings.
<br><br>San Francisco's Russ Ortiz (6-10, 6.19) looks to post
consecutive wins for the first time this season. He is coming
off his strongest outing Wednesday against Pittsburgh
when he surrendered a run and five hits with 10
strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. <br><br>First-half struggles
seemed to send Ortiz to the bullpen, but a shoulder
injury to Joe Nathan on July 14 kept him in the
rotation.Since then, Ortiz is 1-2 with a 4.88 ERA over his last
four starts. <br>Ortiz earned the victory at Milwaukee
on May 21 despite allowing a season-high 10 earned
runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings during a wild
16-10 triumph. With the victory, the 26-year-old
righthander improved to 1-1 lifetime against the Brewers.

Hernandez (11-8) L:John Snyder (3-6) <br>GAME
NOTES<br>S.F.(Ticker) -- Livan Hernandez came within two outs of a
shutout and helped himself with a two-run single in the
second inning as the San Francisco Giants coasted to an
8-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
<br><br>Hernandez (11-8) allowed one run and nine hits over 8 1/3
innings, striking out seven and walking one. He has won four of his
last five starts, set a career high for wins in a
season, and improved to 3-2 lifetime against Milwaukee.
<br><br>The 25-year-old righthander capped a three-run second
inning with his career-high 18th hit of the season, then
added his 19th in the 6th.<br><br>Hernandez started the
9th looking for his first career shutout. He got
Jeromy Burnitz to pop out but yielded singles to Jose
Hernandez and Tyler Houston and an RBI double to Henry
Blanco.<br>Hernandez left to a standing ovation and Alan Embree
retired the next two batters as San Francisco improved
the major leagues' best home record to 37-18.
<br><br>"What can I say? Nothing, except do it the next time,"
said Hernandez, who is 8-2 with a 2.99 ERA at Pacific
Bell Park. "One day it is coming, but today was a good
opportunity. I missed abig chance.""He had good command
tonight," said Giants catcher Bobby Estalella. "He mixed in
his breaking ball and worked both sides ofthe plate
with his fastball. It would have been nice to get that
1st complete-game shutout. I was more upset than he
was. I wanted him to finally get the(shutout)."
<br><br>Giants manager Dusty Baker never hesitated in his
decision to leave Hernandez in the game. "We stuck with
him a little longer than we might as he has not had a
complete game shutout in the major leagues yet," Baker
explained. "Plus, he has an extra day off with the team
getting an off day on Thursday." <br><br>Rich Aurilia had
2 hits and drove in 3 runs for the Giants, who have
won 6 of their last 7 and remained 1 game ahead of
2nd-place Arizona in the National League West. <br><br>John
Snyder (3-6) gave up 5 runs and 5 hits over 4 innings to
fall to 0-4 in his last eight starts. He walked six
batters andstruck out 1 and has not won since June 22.
<br><br>San Francisco jumped on Snyder in the second when
Jeff Kent started things with a walk. After J.T. Snow
flied out, Ellis Burkswalked and Aurilia drove in Kent
with a double to right field. Snyder walked Estalella
before yielding Hernandez's 2-run single to right-center
field. <br><br>"We take a lot of pride in our pitchers'
hitting," Baker said. "They work at it. We want them to be
part of our offense. When a guyknows he can hit, and
we know he can hit, we're less likely to take him
out for a pinch hitter in the 5th or 6th inning."
<br>Hernandez's 19 hits are the most by a Giants pitcher since
Bill Swiftcollected 21 in 1993. He leads NL pitchers
in hits and has 10 RBI and 9 runs scored. <br>Burks
plated Barry Bonds in the 3rd inning with a sacrifice
fly andMarvin Benard doubled in Estalella in the
fourth as the Giants tooka 5-0 lead. <br>Bonds had an
RBI double in the 6 and finished 2-for-3. In his last
7 contests, he is hitting .391 (9-for-23) with 2
homers,5 RBI, 7 runs scored and 8 walks. <br><br>Aurilia
gave San Francisco an eight-run cushion in the seventh
with his 12th homer, a two-run blast. Aurilia leads NL
shortstops with 50RBI and is hitting .366 (41-for-112) with
six homers and 21 RBI since July 1. <br>The Giants
drew a season-high 13 walks. <br>Copyright © 2000
