TEMPE, Ariz. -- John Lackey, who won Game 7 of the World Series last
October, gave up one run in two innings of his spring debut Monday in
the Anaheim Angels' 3-2 loss to a Milwaukee split squad.
"My arm felt good," Lackey said. "My body felt good. My location
wasn't good."
Glendon Rusch, 10-16 in a career-high 34 starts last season, pitched
two scoreless innings in his spring debut for Milwaukee. He started
and allowed two hits.
Ramon Ortiz allowed three hits in two innings in his first start of
the spring. He gave way to Lackey.
Angels' manager Mike Scioscia was happy with the outings of his two
starters.
"They looked great," he said. "We need for our starters to get into
the groove and throw the ball well. Those two guys looked to be in
midseason form."
Angels' catcher Wil Nieves, competing for a roster spot, hit his
first homer of the spring, a two-run shot off Valerio De Los Santos.
Brewers catcher Eddie Perez, a non-roster invitee, doubled home the
go-ahead run in the ninth.
