Newtown face a tough task if they hope to progress in the Loosemores
Welsh Premier Challenge Cup after going down 4-2 at Bangor City in
the first leg of their second round encounter.
The Robins made the perfect start when Peter Smith outpaced the home
defence before firing his shot past keeper Lee Williams on 15
minutes but Bangor battled back with Lee Hunt tapping in an
equaliser just before half time.
With the visiting defence looking uneasy at times, the North Wales
hosts took charge after the interval with two goals in four minutes.
Kenny Burgess netted from close range on 62 minutes and Hunt fired
his second on 66 minutes after bursting into the box.
Burgess also struck the post but Newtown gave themselves a lifeline
when Smith continued his fine season when driving home an angled 18-
yarder on 78 minutes.
But it was Bangor who carved some breathing space for the return at
Latham Park next month when Hunt completed his hat-trick three
minutes from time following a fine run on the left by substitute
Gary Roberts.
