Welshpool's mixed Welsh Premier campaign continued as they slumped
to a 4-1 defeat against Connah's Quay Nomads at Maesydre.
Having looked reasonably solid on home soil this term, defeat was a
blow for the Lilywhites on the back of recent encouraging displays.
"I've no complaints about the result, but I think four goals
flattered them," said boss Russell Cadwallader. "We had a lot of
possession but never looked like scoring."
The Mid Wales men were always chasing the game after defender George
Horan had headed them in front after just six minutes.
Having won their previous two visits to Maesydre in the league, the
Nomads doubled their advantage four minutes before the break when
former Wrexham midfielder Gareth Owen produced a class finish to lob
keeper Scott Brown from just outside the box.
Welshpool, still struggling to prise themselves away from the lower
reaches of the table, raised their hopes on the stroke of half-time
when Christian Courtney pounced to fire in from 10 yards.
The hosts, however, were unable to push on in the second half as
they struggled to make any real impression going forward.
But they remained in the game before the Nomads settled the issue
with two goals in a minute in the latter stages.
Substitute Stuart Rain fired his side's third on 81 minutes and,
straight from the kick-off, the hosts lost possession and the lively
Tommy Mutton ran through before shooting past Brown.
