Mid-South Riders:

I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Happy new year!

Next weekend is the prestigious Round 7 of the Mid-South Winter Series, the
"Cross Country Shootout" in Maplesville, AL. Year after year, no matter the
weather, the Perry Mountain Club has put on one our best and most popular
races. This is a triple sanction with MSHSS, SETRA, and SERA riders.

This race is large enough that it is split into 2 days, Saturday and Sunday
January 19th and 20th. The 2-day schedule will be the same as last year:

Saturday:
11:00 AM - ATV's
2:00 PM Youth

Sunday:
10:00 AM C classes + Junior MC, Masters, Golden Masters, Women
1:00 PM A & B classes

NOTE THE START TIME CHANGES ON BIKES. ONE HOUR EARLIER THAN NORMAL

Here is some important information concerning the event:

All entry fees are the same price, regardless of membership (or no
membership). No MSHSS Memberships will be done at signup. If you are a
latecomer and want to sign up to be a member, see me in the score tent.

Because of the 3 organizations, a little tweaking of the class structure is
necessary. Some classes are spread out; for example:
"Super Senior" becomes 3 classes; Super Senior A, B, and C
250A becomes 2 classes; Open A and 250 A
etc.

Some classes may have overlap (e.g on series' vet ages may be different than
another's Vet ages), or may have different names (i.e. 35+ vs. Vet).

Here's what you do if you are a Mid-South MEMBER: Sign up in the class that
fits your skill, age, AND your machine as close as possible to your regular
class. Examples:
VetA rides VetA
MSHSS Super Senior, A skill level rider, would ride Super Senior A
MSHSS Super Senior, B skill level rider, ride Super Senior B
MSHSS 250A class rider on a 450cc, ride in Open A
etc.

IF YOUR REGULAR CLASS HAS BEEN SPLIT BY SKILL OR SIZE, RIDE THE CLASS WHERE
YOU "FIT".

Ride in the class that is
A) close to your "regular class" and
B) if necessary by either a skill division or a machine size division, ride
in the correct class that fits your skill level and engine size..

All the MSHSS classes that were "split" (i.e. 250A to Open A and 250A) will
be "put back together" based on their adjusted overall finish time for
points calculations. For example Maplesville's Open A and 250A class will
be combined based on the adjusted overall finish time to become MSHSS 250A
again for points calculations. Only riders in the proper "split" classes
will get recombined into the original MSHSS class.

The classes will be laid out clearly on the signup form but you need to be
aware which classes to signup in.

IF YOU ARE A MSHSS MEMBER, be sure to check that box on the signup form, AND
BRING YOUR MSHSS MEMBER CARD!

Trophies and race awards will be based on the actual finish places. POINTS
however are treated differently at this race. Here's some "carrots" to get
everyone to come ride this great event:

#1 ONLY MSHSS MEMBERS will count toward points at Maplesville. ALL
NON-MSHSS MEMBERS will be dropped from points calculations. This is a
slight change from last year where we only dropped SERA and SETRA (and
counted non-identified). Since most MSHSS riders are members now, only
members will be counted when we score for points, class and overall.

#2 For the Motorcycle riders this event is split into 2 smaller races. C
classes, Junior, Super Senior and Masters Classes will ride the morning race
starting at 10AM on Sunday. The C classes will ride no more than 1:55
minutes max but will be stopped in time for the 1:00PM race to begin on
time. The A and B classes will race at 1:00 PM SHARP on Sunday.

ATVS: ATV's WILL RUN ON SATURDAY at 11:00 AM

YOUTH: Youth Junior A will start the Youth races as normal and will start
on SATURDAY at 2:00 PM. Mini A and Mini B will run at least 30 minutes at
Maplesville, possibly 35-40 depending on conditions. The Peewee classes are
usually run independently and scored by hand at Maplesville. They are still
working on how they will handle the 50's this year. Come prepared to start
as early as 2:00 PM to be safe. Actual start time will be posted at signup.

This is a great event with terrain that holds up well no matter the weather.
It is one of the reasons we go south this time of year. The Perry Mountain
Motorcycle Club does an outstanding job of promoting this event. I do
recommend you come VERY early for signup to avoid lines. The race will
start on time whether you get registered or not <smile>.

Hope to see everyone there!

Cheers,
Scott
