oh MAN, wtf happened?
san francisco critical mass wasn't that great, actually. smaller than
i expected, and much less friendly, too. there were hardly any freak
bikes or sound systems (though i guess those would be hard to haul up
the hills), and we kept going down market street--a visible,
pedestrian-filled street, yes, but one that has rails all down it.
the bay bridge--a major port of entry to the city that bikes aren't
allowed on--is closed for the weekend, and there were some chants of
"bridge! bridge! bridge!" the mass didn't take it, though we kept
coming back to it--the closest thing to a CM cocktease i've ever seen.
the failure to go onto the bridge probably had something to do with
the *two* *rows* of police, mostly on motorcycle, at every possible
entrance to the bridge. and did i mention there were at least two
helicopters overhead? i don't know that i would have gone on the
bridge even if the mass had, though--like i said, it was a pretty
small mass, especially in relation to the amount of cops present.
also, a bridge doesn't leave the escape option of "hop over the
knee-high cement wall" that one would have on LSD.
but martin, the wrath of the city? and why do you predict this will
be the last time CCM takes LSD? and jesus, brendan, dude i've never
met, why would the marauders need to be careful?! did our membership
increase tenfold while i was gone?
