Mettle to the Marauders
Greg Valent
IMPORTANT NOTICE for those participating in the VR: Please bring an
ID, a swimsuit, a towel, shorts/T-shirt, tennis shoes, money and lots
of energy. And please, RSVP.
Saturday, the 18th, we ride all night!
We begin at Punkin Donuts at Clark & Belmont, to load up on caffeine.
I'll have my first fully-caffeinated Coke in about 15 years, and you all
get to watch the fireworks, all night long. Let's just say alcohol will
not be necessary for me. That doesn't mean I won't have any. Coffee:
like, a buck.
At 9:45, we head up to ImprovOlympic at 3541 N. Clark, to launch the
festivities with The Cupid Players comedy troupe. We want to arrive just
before the doors open at 10pm, to be sure to get seats. $14... if this
is really a hardship for anyone, I or someone else can surely help.
After the comedy, we ride down to Trader Todd's, at 3216 N. Sheffield.
There will be karaoke. Remember guys, nothing says "I'm secure in my
masculinity" like a rousing rendition of "You Make Me Feel Like a
Natural Woman." Let's get all the guys on stage: this night you can be
proud to call yourself a girly-man. No cover.
Last call there is 1:30 and thereupon they start shooing you out, so we
will hie ourselves down to Exit, at 1315 W. North Avenue, to dance and
feed on the high-energy scene. $5 cover, coffee, what, like, a buck.
After we work up a good hungry, it's time to head over to El Presidente,
at 2558 N. Ashland, for some great Mexican food. Average tab about $9.
Then we soak our weary bones in the XSports jacuzzi, at 230 W North.
Bring your ID, get in free.
Sunrise is at 6:42am! We head over to North Avenue Beach and watch the
sun come up. Priceless.
