Dear Midlanders
We have no option but to postpone the first winter league until Sunday
15th November.
The council are messing us around with the pitches and will not let us
have the pitches on the 8th due to the Rembrance Sunday service held at
the other end of Victoria Embankment.
I know that we were allowed to have the event at the same time last year
but we can not reason with them and it is just going round in circles
from department to department.
I am sorry for the inconvenience this causes but can all teams confirm
if they will be able to make the new date.
Victoria Embankment is were the event was last year and where the
additional fields at Copa are. Nearest postcode for Sat-Navs is NG2 2JY.

Phil Stapleton
Hi Owen,
Emo have just dropped to one team so it'd be great if UBU want to enter
2 teams.
I'm hoping for a proper announcement today/tomorrow, but the council are
a nightmare!

I apologise for not stating this sooner, but would it be possible to have two teams eligible to play. I appreciate if this changes the organisation of events adversely it won't be possible. In particular two teams on the 8 November would be a fantastic way to give many new players a tournament.

Greetings BritDisc
emo are delighted to announce another Skills Day for 2009!
The Skills Day is aimed at relatively new players i.e anyone who
hasn't played A Tour ultimate. We will have a series of stations where
you will learn ultimate fundamentals from some of the top players in
the UK. With some one-on-one tuition in a welcoming environment, you
will definitely improve your understanding of the game and develop
skills to use on the field!
Our Skills Day is open to all - university clubs are particularly
welcome (book a minibus and fill it!) - all we ask is that you bring
boots, water and a disc (and some warm clothes) and an open mind. In
the past, even people with several years experience have learnt a
thing or too, so why not come along and see if you can too?
Where? Victoria Park, Leicester
When? Saturday 14th November, 11am start
More details can be found on our website
http://www.emo-ultimate.org.uk/skillsday.html. We will also have
discs for sale.
Registration: Just turn up on the day! However, if you are a committee
member from a university team and are planning to bring a large number
of players, we ask that you let us know in advance so we can organise
ourselves. Contact Jordan: jordanlabrom.ultimate@...
Anyone interested in playing with emo in 2009 / 2010 is welcome to
come along and meet us, ask a few questions, and get an idea of the
kind of training we do.
Any questions, just drop Jordan a line: jordanlabrom.ultimate@...
Thanks

notice that no provisional dates have been added, presumably because a 1st Sunday of every month is out cos no one will be around in January and 2 Sunday has a horrible clash in Feb. with uni regionals.

Hey Guys,
Berry's BD email about London Summer League reminded me about MSL'09.
Is anyone organising this already? If not, I'll sort it.
Cheers, Lucas.
Just to remind you all that tomorrow is the Big Lid Bash at QP. We are
hoping that the weather is kind to us but remember, unlike Ultimate, you
can wear a coat and wellies whilst playing disc golf!
One thing to make clear is that this event you need to use a "catch"
disc e.g. an Ultrastar or a Wham-o or Daredevil ultimate disc or
similar. You can't use golf discs. We will have some discs for sale and
possibly a few to lend out but mostly we need you to bring your own.

Quarry Park Disc Golf and the Leamington Lemmings present the UK's first
Super Class disc golf event and you can play in it.
What is disc golf?
Golf with a disc of course, what could be better!
What is Super Class?
Super Class is a way to make Old School new again. In the last few years
there has been a huge amount of development of specialist golf discs. SC
says boo to that we want to use catch discs! So you can use your
Ultrastar safe in the knowledge that no-one is going to be throwing the
latest "Power Max Hyper Wang Thunderbolt in zip-zip plastic". Now it's
all about the thrower.
What is Big Lid Bash?
One round of 18 holes on the QP Short Course (see below) to determine
bragging rights as the UK's first Super Class tournament winner and
maybe win a disc or two. If we have a draw after 18 holes we will go to
a sudden death play-off using the pro tees!
Where?
Quarry Park disc golf course, Leamington Spa
<www.quarrypark.co.uk>
The famous host of the 2008 and, soon 2009, British Open Disc Golf
Championships (<http://www.quarrypark.co.uk/british-open>). But don't
worry, well have a nice, shortened Ultrastar friendly course for you.
When?
Saturday April 11th, 1pm to 5pm (approx)
Yep, you can play Lemmings Hat
(<http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/event.php?eid=56916560833>),
party the night away then blow off
the hangover with 18 holes of Ultrastar heaven.
Also do you see what we did there? 1pm - yep, lie in eat brunch and
still have time to saunter over.
Registration
This is a turn up on the day, pay and play event but it would help me a
great deal if you could email me in advance and let me know you are coming.
The cost is the normal round fee (£5 / £3 students) plus £1.00 towards
the prize fund.
The number of prizes will depend on attendance but I would like to be
giving out winner, best woman, best junior and best rookie. This will
depend on numbers so if you want a prize bring a friend.

I would appreciate it if student reps could forward this onto their club members.

QP Inaugural Pro/Am Doubles Sunday 1st March 1:30pm
First off apologies if you receive this email more than once but we want
as many of you as possible to get to hear about this event.
We would like to invite anyone in the Midlands interested in playing
competitive Disc Golf to the first ever event organised by the Quarry
Park Disc Golf Players Club.
We think Disc Golf is a great sport with a big future and that once you
try it you will too. So the plan is to get people who may only have
played recreationally before or even only heard about the sport to a
proper competitive event.
Discs will be provided for use on the day and there will also be discs
for sale when you're hooked at the end, and more discs as prizes for the
best pair on the day.
It works like this...
Each "Am" (beginner) is paired up with a "Pro" (experienced competitive
player) for a round of Modified Best Shot Doubles. In this form of the
game both players get to take a go at each shot and then you can choose
which one to use after you've seen where they both end up. You're
probably thinking that you'll always be taking the pro players' shot but
you'd be surprised how often it doesn't work out like that.
The Modified bit is that you can't take the same players drive (the
first shot from the tee pad) more than twice in a row. So that also
means that at some point the "Am" will be in the driving seat!
The great thing about this format is that there is a lot less pressure
on you to get the shot right as the pair will always have another go
from the other player. We find this really helps to improve your game,
especially putting and is great for getting some coaching on the way.
There will be a handicap system in place which will depend on the
combined abilities of the two players in each team. We don't want Del
Robins, the current UK champion, walking away with the prize.
The cost per player will be the standard Quarry Park green fee plus a £1
contribution to the prize fund which works out to £6 or £4 for students
and juniors.
It should take about 2 1/2 hours to play the round and we will be
meeting up at 1:30pm to arrange the pairs with the round starting at
about 2pm.
You will need to enter in advance so we know how many pro players will
be needed. Also it's likely to be limited to the first 18 or so "Ams"
who sign up. To enter please email me at the address below with "QP
Pro/Am Disc Golf Doubles" in the subject of the email.
If you don't know if you qualify as an Am don't worry, we ask you to
list your disc golf experience in your entry email. Depending on what
level of response we get you might get promoted to Pro status but
basically if you have never played in a competitive tournament or maybe
only once or twice then you qualify as an Am.
Also if you think you are a Pro player and you want to help out, or
already have a partner in mind, then just email me as below and let me
know your experience and the details of your partner.
To recap:

firstly apologies if you get this more than once, trying to get it out to as many people as possible. Details below of a one day charity fundraising tournament held in Birmingham in April to raise money for the MS Society.
Matt (the guy organising it all) is taking part in the Triple Threat Challenge which encompasses the London Marathon, cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats and then completing the Three Peaks Challenge - all in the space of a week. If successful, he will be the first person to complete the challenge and will have travelled around 1,700 miles in total in just 7 days. The purpose of this tour is not only to raise funds for the MS Society, but also to raise the profile of MS amongst the general public. The disease affects around 85,000 individuals in the UK alone, yet most people know nothing about it! So be sure to explore the website and find out more - www.ttt2009.com
