Regardless of whether you are playing Winter League or not, if there is anyone on email at work this morning, please can you give your thoughts on the Winter League format:

Alternatives suggested to my previous system (2 divisions split over 2 days each; promotion between rounds; points awarded after weeks 2 and 4 for overall standings. Original points mean that anyone in division 2 couldn't win overall)

A) Keep divisions, promotion and schedule fundamentally the same, but the final standings will be based purely on where teams finish after week 4. Would hopefully mean more games against similar teams. Schedule and fixtures remain largely unchanged.

B) Change schedule to a 14 team single round robin event over the 4 weeks. Teams get 13 games each over the course of the event. Might mean some mismatches, might not. Means that you have a definitive league winner. This will result in a total re-write of the schedule.

C) Another format. (Note that we have 4 pitches for 6 hours a day for 4 days. That means at each event you can fit in 24 x 50min games, 20 x 60min games, 16 x 75 min games, 12 x 105 min games)

Please offer your opinions, as I would quite like to run a league that people enjoy playing in, rather than there being constant problems with the format.

I would suggest option A, but with a reshuffle of the pools. If it stays as an upper and lower pool, it's possible that some better teams will be forced to...

I think ever one should be able to win. But at the same time playing heavily mismatched games isn't great in the summer, never mind when its freezing. You have...

Thanks Nick, but the main reason I would go with pools/divisions rather than a big league is to try and get people playing as competitive stuff as possible....

By shuffle, I mean exactly what you say. At the moment it looks like one pool has the 'stronger'/proven teams, and the other has the 'weaker'/new teams. I...

I think everyone would be happier taking Gav's suggestion of wearing togas. Obviously, they'd have to be performance, thermal togas for Winter League ;-) Oscar...

Maybe that is the way forward. I don't have to re-write the schedules; it takes out a bit of the hazards of mis-seeding. It would be the top 3 from each pool...

Right then, after mulling it over for a day, this is the way that we will do it. 2 pools of 7 with a round robin over the first 2 events. Top 7 and bottom 7...

The concept, in itself, is a good one. However, this is a completely new method of looking at things and would take a fair bit of tweaking of the schedule in...
