Thanks to Kevin Warren and the club for putting on a great race
today. I had a fantastic time. I have posted 27 pics in the photo
section in the left column. They are posted in the folder "Dam Half
2006". Enjoy! Feel free to add any photos that you may have.
Larry Ryan
Carmella,
Thanks for putting the pictures on the site. I'll see you Sunday
morning at the Dam Half. I am actually looking forward to it. I
love trail runs with a 10 am start!

Larry,
I just posted more pictures of the Megatransect. They are also posted
at runwalknepa.info
Thanks for keeping the website active. See you at the Dam Half.
Carm
The results are up on the Megatransect website. Here are the results
for the MPTB'ers that ran.

97 Jennifer Stec-Gagliardi 6:07
138 Harlan Ross 6:42
139 Larry Ryan 6:42
187 Paul Noll 7:24
235 Carmella Dipippa 8:08
413 finishers
450+ starters
Larry Ryan
Jen, John, Paul, Harlan, Carmella, and I completed the 4th annual
Megatransect yesterday. The course was 24.9 miles long and included a
second boulder field early in the race. I have posted some pics in
the photo section at left. Enjoy!
Larry Ryan
I see that the Megatransect is full. Looks like they got the total
field of 450 runners. Should be a crowded start. I hope to see many
of you on Saturday.

The remnants of Hurricane Ernesto greeted the runners of the Dandelion
5K and 10K Trail Runs with wind and heavy rain. The 5K saw 31 runners
finish while 16 hearty soles opted for a second loop and the 10K. I
have posted the overall results of both races in the files section at
the left and some pics will follow shortly.

I will be making my last weekday trip to Rickett's Glen this Friday,
Sept. 1. It will be a leisurely trip up and down the Falls Trail. If
you have the day off for an extra long weekend. Come up and join me
at 9:30 am.
Larry Ryan
I'll be heading up to Rickett's Glen again this Friday morning (8/25)
for a relaxed pace trip up the Falls Trails. I start at 9:30.
Meeting place is the parking lot on the left of Rt. 118 as you are
heading towards Wilkes-Barre. All are welcome!
Larry Ryan
Hey, this is curt. I met some of you at Dale Engel the other week.
For those I talked to then I was telling you about the Hawaii marathon
I was planning to do in December for the Arthritis Foundation. Turns
out my son's surgery will not allow Hawaii to happen so I have shifted
to the Foundation's third option which is Orlando/Disney in January.
If anyone is interested inlearning more please let me know. Thanks and
certainly Happy Trails to all!!!!
My other running club, Oregon East, puts on a 4 miles XC race which
starts and ends at Hughesville High School. This year's event is
August 26, 9 am. The course is very flat and is run mainly on grass
with some gravel road and trail. You can find an application at this
link:

I will be heading back up to run the Fall Trails again this Friday at
9:30 am. Last week I completed 2 complete trips up and down, but this
week I will just stick to one trip. I will be trying to push the
pace. If you are interested in joining me. I park in the lot on the
left side of Rt. 118.
Larry Ryan
We had a group of 13 show up for last night's fun run at Dale Engel
Park. There were 10 adults and 3 future trail runners. Eight of the
adults hit the trails while the others enjoyed the beautiful rural
scenery along the roads. Afterward the club provided pizza and
refreshments. A good time was had by all. I have posted a few pics
in the photo section.
Larry Ryan
RuthAnn,
I am thinking about coming tomorrow. Is there a picnic and stuff as well? Seems
to me that may have been said before. If so should I bring anything? I am
thinking I will have my family along as well if that's ok. How long is the run?
What time does other stuff start or is it all at 6:30?
Thanks
Sincerely,
Curtis Louder

Hey Larry, Thanks for keeping everyone up to date with runs and rides. I still
want to join you at Ricketts Glen. I have to check my schedule and babysitters.
I have been out of town alot during July and the first week of August. I think
I'll be home for awhile now. Hope to see you Tuesday evening. RuthAnn

I'll be doing a bike ride from the Visitor Center parking lot at the
Montour Preserve on Thursday, 8/10, at 6 pm. Easy pace, 10 to 20
miles.
Friday, 8/11, I am hoping to do two trips of the Falls Trail at
Rickett's Glen. I will depart for the first trip at 9:30 am and hope
to be back to the parking lot to refuel at around 11:00. I hope to
depart for the second trip between 11:15 and 11:30. Hopefully, I will
finish around 1 pm. It depends on how tired I get and the number of
folks on the trails to slow me down. Each trip up and down is about 7
miles. Join me for one or two treks up and down the falls trail. I
park in the lot on the left side of Rt. 118 just after you cross over
the creek (as you drive east toward Wilkes-Barre). Look for my black
Dodge Raider.
Larry Ryan
RuthAnn,
I'll see you Tuesday evening. I'll post a bike ride and run at
Rickett's shortly.

I just noticed that I had a typo for the date of my next bike ride. I will be riding this Thursday, 8/3, from the visitor center parking lot at the Montour Preserve. Ride time is 6 pm.
I will be taking a bike ride on Thursday evening, 8/30, 10 - 20
miles. Meet at the visitor center parking lot at the Montour Preserve
at 6 pm.
I ran into Mick Maneval today and he reports that the trails at
Rickett's Glen are now open. He says that they are rather rough as
the fine gravel that was used to smooth out the trails has washed
out. I will be running there on Friday, 8/5, at 9:30 am.
Meet in the parking lot on the left side of Rt. 118 just after you
cross over the creek.
Larry Ryan
If anyone is up for a road bike ride on Thursday, July 27, meet at the
Visitor Center parking lot at the Montour Preserve at 6:00 pm. Easy
pace, 10 - 20 miles.
Also we are riding from the same location Saturday morning, July 29 at
8:30 am. Please RSVP if you plan to do that one. 30 miles.
Larry Ryan
I won't be able to do a bike ride again this week. I have
committments on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Hopefully, I will
get back into the swing of riding next week. I am doing a ride on
Saturday, July 29, that I call the Tour de Montour on the roads of
Montour Co. The ride will start at 8:30 am and cover about 30 miles.
The course will be marked and there will be a sag wagon. Let me know
if you are interested.
This Friday, 7/21, I will be heading to R.B. Winter State Park for a
run at 9:30 a.m. Let me know if you are interested.
Larry Ryan
The Falls Trails, Highland Trail, and Bear Walk Trail at Rickett's Glen
are closed until further notice because of the flooding last week.
According to the signs, they will be closed for weeks or possibly
months. It appears that the damage was severe. Also the signs state
that tresspassers will be prosecuted.
All other parts of the park are open.
Larry Ryan
PS - No bike ride this week. I will be attending class at Penn State.
Also, because the trails at Rickett's are closed, I probably will be
heading to R.B. Winter State Park on Fridays starting the 21st.
No one showed at the Montour Preserve to bike with me tonight. This
was after two folks assured me last night that they would be there. I
did a short ride of 12.3 miles and checked out a few roads that I
hadn't biked on before. Tomorrow I'll be at Rickett's Glen to run the
fall's trails. I plan to go up and down twice if the legs and body
holds out. I park in the lot on the left side of Rt. 118. I'll be
there by 9:30.
Larry
Road bike ride, Thursday, July 6, 6:00 pm. Meet at the Montour
Preserve Visitor Center parking lot. All types of bikes welcome.
Relaxed, social pace, no one gets dropped, we will regroup at turns
and cross roads. 15 - 20 miles. I did not ride last week because
there were thunderstorms in the area.
Larry Ryan
Not a problem Carmella. I'll show up and go for a short ride if no
one shows. Thanks for letting me know you may not make it. We can
try again for next Thursday.
