Re: [michiganderbicycletour] Re: Road vs. trail, etc.

Doug

We have been riding the Michigander with 700X30 to 700x35 tires since 1995 with no problems.  (Once in a great while, espically in the earlier riders, we had to walk the bikes a sort distance.  But the advantages of a smaller tire on hard packed or paved trails made up for the difference.) With the improvements in the trails made over the years, I think the Michigander is now more of a hybrid bike tour than a mountain bike ride.   We always try to have tires which are good for riding in the rain.

Doug,,,,,,,,,,, this is hard to do as each day the road/trail is so varied.......... maybe for 20 miles you will wish you had a road bike then turn about for the next 20 wish it was a mt bike on a trail.
I use an old Cannondale Mt with 1.25 x26 on front (smooth) and 1.50 by 26 light tread on back....... it works quite well for most conditions....... only really unimpoved trail with ballast was difficult and there may be little of that. Hope this helps you. eks
